Pathfinder rule books...
I had canceled my subscription to it after the GMG, but they have something coming out next year that looks like it is so packed full of cool ideas and just "stuff" I think I will be resubscribing to get it:
http://paizo.com/store/byCompany/p/paiz ... age=3#tabs
What is grabbing me is:
"Extensive overviews of new and existing magic subsystems such as condition-based magic, cooperative casting, magical organizations, unpredictable primal magic, counterspelling, binding outsiders, crafting golems, etc."
and
"# Lots of new familiars
# Premade spellbooks suitable for use at all levels of play"
and last, but certainly not least, in my book:
"an innovative new words of power spell casting system"
Something I have been a big fan of since my Palladium days and why I adapted the Runemark to C&C in my house rules.
So I think this is going to give me a absolute TON of stuff to think about for my C&C games.
This comes out in April of next year, so hopefully the CKG will arrive well ahead of that and let me know if this might be as awesome as an "idea toolbox" as I think it will be.

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Overall I like Pahtfinder, and this seems like a good idea when reading the blurb. Thanks for the link.
I think the Advanced Player's Guide ZOOMED the Pathfinder game right into the stratosphere with obsense amounts of crunch. Pathfinder is catching up quite quickly with the end times of v3.5 game where there is just too much stuff... too many options for players, and ever deepening levels of crunch. Sure, Pathfinder has yet to release a book for every class like 3.5 did, but in the Advanced Player's Guide there is just so much stuff for every class. While that is good for Pathfinder buyers (clearly Paizo is not raping their customers... yet), it is making the game too dense.

You're implying that 3.5 wasn't too dense, and it's just getting that way. I'm of the school of thought that considered 3.5 too dense, even before they started adding all the class-specific books.
Even though I think Pathfinder is a better rules set, over all, than 3E is, I agree its crunch level has gone through the roof with the players options rule book. Fortunately I have no intent of ever GMing 3E or Pahfinder. I can be talked into playing them, probably.
I buy Pathfinder stuff for other reasons. Good rules ideas, good ideas, period, in their fluff, monsters and magic items and spells. Plus I like the company and its attitude towards their customer base Their adventures are always well done, and I love adventures!
I do not buy their stuff due to any intention or desire to play or run PF though. I have none.

Overall I like Pathfinder a lot too. But I have to agree with your comments about the APG. I could see the power curve creep back into the game with it. I think if I ran a home game using the Pathfinder rules, I'd ban the new classes and some of the spells.

The only issues I have with pathfinder adventures with C&C is I have to weave the adventure paths in and out of the game as pathfinder pc's level a lot faster thanmy C&C pc's.

Re: Pathfinder rule books...
I am drawn to Pathfinder like the proverbial moth to a flame - it is new and shiny and I just can't ignore it no matter how much I try. I am currently playing in a Pathfinder pbp and am gearing up for my own Pathfinder campaign set to kick off at the first of the new year.
Winter is coming...
Re: Pathfinder rule books...
I like Pathfinder and eventually hope to run a game, but that is true for all the RPGs I get. As it stands, PF is rather low on my gaming priority list. In the interim, I'm collecting their main books, and so far I've got the Beastiery, Core Rule Book, GMG, Advanced Players Guide and Game Master Screen). I picked up their entire Kingmaker series (and map pack for it) as that is what I want to run when I get a chance. Other than that, it's their Flip Maps that I've been picking up as well. Their map packs have been less than helpful, but I think now they're looking at how to use them to change up the scenery on the Flip Maps, which is cool.
Anyway, Beastiery 2 is next up on the plate for the Pathfinder Purchase and then probably Ultimate Magic. But I can quit anytime I want you know...I just don't want to.

Re:
I started reading over Pathfinder and have written 2 adventures for it for Open Design's upcoming Streets of Zobeck and some monsters for their Frozen Empire book. It has a lot more to keep up with than it 3.5 root game, for sure. I ran my playtest with pre-gens from Hero Lab, and we had a hard time tracking down where info came from. The number of new abilities for each class is daunting, for sure. The APG did ZOOM things over the top! Even one of my power-loving players said the book introduced stuff that was too powerful for the game.Omote wrote:Overall I like Pahtfinder, and this seems like a good idea when reading the blurb. I decided to keep my D&D game 3.5 and just port over some of the cool stuff from PF. I do like the support material Paizo is producing for the game, though I can no longer keep up with purchasing it.
I'll likely write some more for the system, but my 2011 will be spent mostly writing/editing for C&C and Savage Worlds. The older I get, the more I appreciate systems which don't overload me with rules and extreme numbers of player abilities. I played 4e Gamma World this new year, and I could not, for the life of me, keep up with everything my character was supposed to be able to do. Then, some of the stuff changed out when you rolled a 1. That was more stuff to remember! I'm just too old for it, I tell ya.
