CrusaderSiege?

Post by Piperdog »

I have been writing a fantasy adaptation of StarSiege for my C&C game. No really. I have long been a fan of armor as damage reduction, separating it from the needed to hit roll, and the spin on the siege engine kicks ass with the skill bundles. Using the Psionics as a template for magic isn't that far of a stretch either.

Anyone else try this? I may never complete it, as my ADD prevents most rpg projects from seeing fruition, but still....I like it enough to give it a try.

Using the stress track could be useful for magic strain, or for use as insanity as in Warhammer, for a darker fantasy campaign.

Sounds cool. I'd like to hear more. I haven't looked at StarSiege at all, though.

I had a very similar idea upon reading SS. It would be an excellent system for 'science-fantasy' style games.

I wrote a conversion of some of the basic "Fantasy Classes" that ended up in a Crusader magazine... but that was based off of some of the older Beta Playtest rules... I might be able to track down my original docs if you want me to email them, just send me a PM. Basically I went through and modeled some of the class abilities from C&C into StarSIEGE so you could buy them with XP and either recreate the Classes or build your own...

But I agree that SS is enough of a toolkit that it would be pretty easy to do a straight-up Fantasy game with just a little bit of elbow grease.

A science and sorcery style game would be cool, like a Thundarr the Barbarian style setting.

So I had been working on this in the past, before getting pulled to other concerns. I pulled up the file before running to work this AM and found that I worked my way through the Field Manual to the Nova Points section. Basically a bit of rewrite, and some notes on the conversion of attributes to/from C&C. I think I was on about 7 pages of material at that point. Over the next couple of days I'll flesh out a little more meat, maybe a one or two races, one or two professions, a couple of skill bundles, and some specialties and see what people think. I am trying to stick as close to StarSIEGE as possible, though some things are re-named to eliminate the futuristic view. In a few instances this equates very nicely as there are notes in the SFM that give such alternate names. Such as the PSI Score, they mention calling it, among other things, Manna... so I am referencing that. Also, instead of Nova Points, I went back to a more generic Fate Point. Also refering to Tech Score (albiet a minor aspect in this) and Taint, which I mentioned I would devote a separate supplement to. Some things instead of giving away the ship, I mention that you must refer to the SFM, so it wont be a 100% complete system, but will require SS:EH to be purchased.

Ok, here is the start of what I am calling FantaSIEGE...

Please constructive feedback is welcomed, and needed. I haven't worked out the full mechanic for spell casting yet. Not sure if I want to use Drain as laid out in the SFM or have some sort of a power-well that gets Drained. If the latter I may also allow damage to be taken on the Wounds and/or Stress track to allow additional effects to be utilized. Also, if using a power-well, how does it fill back up over time? Will it be the traditional full night sleep, or a method of allowing it to slowly fill depending on activity level?

Also, the format right now is horrible, I know... Hey, that is what editing is for right? ;)

Bummer, tried to upload a PDF and got a message that the file extension PDF is not allowed. So here it is in a ZIP file.

Thanks, been slow going, got some time yesterday and worked on more of the races, looks like I could get them all right at 50pts except gnomes and halflings... thoughts, adjustments?
