StarSiege Hit Location

Post by Piperdog »

I can't seem to find one in the rules. Am I missing it? If not, does anyone have a homebrewed system for it?

No Hit Locations in the RAW...

Let me ponder it some... what did you want it for specifically? Just to flavor up the game or to replace the wound system?

I would look at using either the coc/basic fantasy/runequest from chaosium or 2300ad hit locations. Also, runequest does what you were looking for as far as armor absorbs damage in hit locations.

Mad irishman has teh 2300ad director sheet with hit locations here http://www.mad-irishman.net/pub_2300.html

see if this helps.

Do remember that the RAW had an option to model special attacks without hit locations and the like by using the "Critical Strike" rule where you use elevated Base TNs (18 for Combat Prime and 24 for non-Combat Prime). If you hit at these higher numbers you bypass Armor and deal a Critical Strike... but that might be too ambiguous for you.

For random hit locations... hrrm... Let's try this:

When you roll your d20 to hit simply consult on the following table for the location hit:

1: Feature (Player's choice: i.e. Eye, Nose, Finger, Throat, etc.)

2: Face

3: Head

4-7: Torso (Even=Chest, Odd=Abdomen)

8-9: Limb (Even=Right, Odd=Left, choose most applicable)

10: Head

11-13: Limb (Even=Right, Odd=Left, choose most applicable)

14-20: Torso (Even=Chest, Odd=Abdomen)

This means that you have to be really skilled or lucky to hit anything other than center mass, since most "successful" shots are going to be paired with a high roll. Someone who can hit when rolling a 1 deserves to choose where the bullet goes... meanwhile, a 20 will almost always hit, and thus hit center mass.

You could choose to double the "Feature" option and put it at the 20 slot as well, but I'd probably recommend against it... the 20 is going to be the most common number that is always guaranteed to hit... so it's kinda up to you. If you make 20=Feature then you're giving a blind luck to everyone... if you make 20=Torso you're pretty much dooming Non-Combat Prime characters to never hitting more than the Torso or Limb, with an off Head shot.

Thanks for the input! I was looking to add hit locations for called shots. Expanding the armor rules would allow each location to be armored differently, thus tactical aiming for weak spots would be necessary at times. I need to mull over your ideas a bit. Thanks again!
