Hooray for technology!

Post by DeadReborn »

On Friday night, I played in my first online game using Skype and Open RPG. I had a total blast! I've been a little hesitant in the past because I figured there was no way it could compare to playing face-to-face, but I was sadly mistaken. You can't get any closer to the real thing, IMO. Not to mention I was in the comfort of my own home and didn't have to spend gas money driving an hour each way to find a group with similar taste. If anyone is on the fence about playing online, jump over. There's lots of fun to be had. I have such a renewed energy for this wonderful hobby of ours. I feel like I'm twelve years old all over again.

With a lot of my friends moving all over the country I have really been thinking about trying this. A few people in my regular group said they would like to try it too.

I'm just now looking into programs to run it with.

SKYPE and Maptools from rptools.net are my favorite programs, both free, of course. I have been gaming on line for over 3 years now, and I agree, anyone who doesn't do this to get a game going is really cheating themselves of a good time.

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

I agree with Tree. I've been in his online game of over 3 years and have run a couple of online games too. It's the next best thing to actual face to face gaming.

I hate technology. I still think that whole wheel thing was a bad idea! *wheeze*
Biggest issue I have with gaming right now is freaking time. With school going...I don't have much.

Ive used a few different virtual tabletops and the technology is excellent if you take a bit of time to learn how to properly configure a session. None of the ones Ive tried have been difficult to use.
