Tieflings (and Drow)

Post by Ronin77 »

My take on Tieflings in my home brew setting.

(much of the Racial Traits and Abilities are copied from a work I found online for Tieflings, Sorry I don't know who the author is. Just the history is mine.)

Tieflings have infernal and elven ancestry.
History:Tieflings were once elves who lived in the northern sun-vally. These sun elves lived in the shadow of two great mountains in peace and harmony. Sun elves Had very little if any contact with any one outside the sun-vally.

During the demon wars T's'ak "the son of pain" Demon prince used the vally in his attack on the land of men. Using the catacombs of the great mountains that intersect the Sun-vally.

At the end of the Demon marches, T's'ak fled in defeat. Using what was left of his infernal horde he rounded up near one thousand sun elves and dragged every one of them into the catacombs. There they were sealed together, trapped. T's'ak chose to cave is the entrance to the catacombs rather than be cornered and destroyed by the armies of men.

The sun elves were slaves to the infernal horde. Over generations the taint of the infernals began to seep into the souls and bodies of the sun elves.

No one Knew but T's'ak had a plan for these elves. Allowing elves and infernals to create a new breed. loosing much of their elven long life and gaining the quick to mature infernal traits. There numbers grew and grew under the yoke and whip of their infernal masters.

When T's'ak Felt that the number of lives in the catacombs were plentiful enough he called his priests to begin a terrible and foul ritual that tore away the souls those in the catacombs to open a gate to the infernal realm. He stepped through the gate leaving thousands dead.

The less than 300 left in the catacombs were with out a leader. with out a plan. Over generations they formed a new society. With some semblance of order. They also found their way to the surface.
Description: Tieflings can vary in appearance greatly. From dark skinned Elves with white silk fine hair. To dusky skinned dark haired humanoids with budding or ram like horns coming from forehead or sides of the head. Some have hooves and Goat-like legs. One thing all Tieflings share is glowing eyes. The color can vary from red to a deep yellow, But always piercing and unnerving to almost any onlooker.
Environment: Tieflings thrive in cities. Some are found in the

country, but most avoid it because they dont want superstitious

peasants to kill them.

Racial Traits and Abilities
Darkvision: Tieflings can see in complete darkness for up to 60 feet.

Darkvision produces images that are in shades of gray, but is

otherwise like normal sight. Tieflings can function well with no light

at all. Bright lights, such as from a lantern or other light sources, spoil

darkvision. A tiefling requires one turn to adjust his eyes when a light

source is extinguished before gaining full use of darkvision.

Darkness: Tieflings can cast the spell Darkness once per day, even

while wearing armor. This is an innate ability, and does not count

against spells per day for spell-casters.
Resistance: Choose one at character creation: Resist Cold, Resist

Electricity, or Resist Fire. A tiefling does not take the first five points

of damage from any attack that is generated by the selected effect.
Hide (Dexterity): Tieflings are adept at avoiding notice when they

need to. A successful check allows a tiefling to hide making him or her

almost invisible. If a tiefling decides to move while attempting to

remain concealed, he can still hide, but will suffer a penalty to the

check. At up to one-half their movement rate, tieflings suffer a 5

penalty to the check. At one-half their normal movement rate up to

full speed, they suffer a 10 to the check. It is impossible for a tiefling

to move faster than normal speed while hiding. If the tiefling is being

observed, even casually, the character cannot hide. If the observers

are momentarily distracted, however, the tiefling can attempt to hide.

The check has a 10 penalty because the character has to move

quickly into hiding.
