New C&C Convert

Post by Demiurge »

Just a quick hello from a new Crusader.

I've been gaming since 1982. I enjoy lots of RPGs, but D&D has always been my first love.

While each version has somethings that I like, I have become burned out with 3.5e due to trying to keep up with my own character! I found that I was spending hours strategizing what to do at each level and what my ultimate goal was. I found myself playing more out of habit than for the love of the game.

I decided 4th edition was just too different and didn't solve my other hangup; combats take so long that I get bored between turns! Last session we had one combat the lasted the ENTIRE SESSION!
I started looking for an alternative and stumbled onto C&C. I downloaded the sample rules PDF from TLG's website and all I can say is WOW! This game is just what I've been looking for... and I can use all my 1e and 2e stuff with just a little tweaking!

I noticed that there was a big sale on the core books, so I immediately placed an order. I haven't been this excited about a gaming purchase since my best friend and I held a car wash to earn enough money to buy the 1e PHB!

At last night's gaming session I talked to my group and they are all open to giving C&C a try after our current campaign ends! Woot!
I'm sure I'll be posting more once I have devoured the rest of the rules.

Great news Demiurge! C&C is an incredibly flexible system, while retaining the flavor of the original games on which it is based. I think you guys are going to love it. All the best.

Welcome to the Crusade!

C&C is capable of doing anything you want, so if you have any doubts about how to do something come back and ask! We love to help.

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Glad to hear that your friends have embraced the idea. Hopefully they can put aside feats, and the overly-tactical nature of 3.5 in favor of C&C. BTW, I think 1982 was my first year for roleplaying.

Thanks, Treebore. It was your posts on ENWorld discussing C&C that lead me here.

Welcome to the Crusade! You'll find everyone here is a pretty friendly bunch as well As a new guy who seems pretty excited, jump over to the Castles and Crusades Society fan community at www.castlesandcrusades.ning.com and sign up. It's something new we are trying, and in time, should be the hub of fan activity.

Nice! If you think your players will hate giving up feats, look at my house rules to see how I do things without feats, or if you want to actually use some kind of feats look at Omote's house rules.

Hey Dude! Welcome to the crusade!

I came to it in a similar way, wanted to pick up playing again after a few years off, but felt overwhelmed by trying to learn a 'new' game (3.X) or trying to relearn my 2nd ed with Player's option scads and scads of optional rules (we loved it at the time) and C&C fit the bill perfectly.

So I hope and expetct that you'll love it!

Welcome to the crusade Demiurge! There are good folk here abouts. I changed to C&C for about the same reasons. I think you will enjoy C&C, I know our group has.

Welcome, Demiurge! Your story sounds an awful lot like mine, and I have to say finding TLG and C&C was one of the best things to happen to me. Since playing C&C, I've gotten back into what I enjoyed about gaming. I get to spend my time creating a full-fledged story and world for the characters rather than doing nothing but number-crunching. I feel like I can create fights that are quick and streamlined, rather than dreading combat because it seemed as fast and enjoyable as walking through hip-deep mud and having underling ones that lasted half the night.

Hope you enjoy yourself here, and have a great time making the Crusade your own!
