Critical Hits

Post by grimmdm »

Hi

I was wondering something is there rules for Critical Hits in C&C?

I couldn't find one..

I mean is a natural 20 an auto success, and a Natural 1 an Auto Fail?

or do most people just double the damage on a natural 20?

I think the rules differentiate between combat rolls and SIEGE checks (at least, I've seen examples in texts that seem to do this).

In combat: 20 always hits, 1 always misses. I don't think natural 20s do double damage in the RAW, but, even if they don't, I have them do so anyway.

SIEGE Check: Whether 1 or 20 fail or succeed depends upon the final Challenge Rating and the bonuses/penalties of the acting character.

Unfortunately, I can't quote page references to back up anything I say, as I'm still at work.

Many people use a house rule for a natural 20 and 1, but these are just rolls as far as RAW cares.

You know we debate this all the time at the TLG game table. Mac really believes that a 20 should always hit and a 1 always miss. I think otherwise. His point is that there should always be a chance for that amazingly heroic deed . . . Bard when he slays Smaug. I'm not so sure. I lean toward the grinding maelstrom of battle.

The CKG addresses this quite a bit and provides 3 different approaches to using critical hit and critical miss rules.
