Pantheon by Alignment, pt. I: Thrax the Iron Emperor (LE)

Post by Kaiser_Kris »

I started taking a look at my pantheon and realized that 27 deities is way too many, so I took some advice and started weeding out some of them to make way for the Nine, each of which represent an alignment. They also employ a number of demigod servants, which have a much more specialized portfolio. First, I will start with the Lawful Evil deity, Thrax, the Iron Emperor, and the Tyrant King of Hell.
Thrax, the God of Lawful Evil:

Like all deities, Thrax can take on virtually any shape he pleases, but typically he takes upon the image of a large man, about seven feet tall, made completely out of cold iron, his features typically covered in a long hood and the rest of his garments in the black and red motif so beloved by the devils. His favored weapon is a mace, and he wields a gigantic cold iron mace, constantly infused with cold energy.

As the divine representative of Lawful Evil, it should surprise no one that Thrax is in close alignment with the baatezu, the rulers of the Nine Rings of Hell, in the interior of the infernal plane. Indeed, Thrax has chosen many of the most powerful devils as his closest allies, with the most powerful and subtle of the baatezu, the incredibly ancient Asmodeus, serving as his second-in-command and most able (if somewhat untrustworthy) subordinate. Other servants of his include Princes of Hell such as Mammon, Dispater and Belial, as well as Proserpina, the daughter of Satan. A wide variety of mortals and mortal-derived demigods also serve him.

Unlike the other two Evil deities (Skatha and Lilith), Thrax is openly worshipped in a variety of societies, as a god of power, law and war, and is known to occasionally take on mortal form and observe the socities his power shapes firsthand. He is also instrumental in coordinating between corrupt and power-mad earthly societies and the baatezu in Hell, with the devils being paid in mortal souls for their services to those mortals (and by extension, to Thrax).

In terms of personality, Thrax is conscientious about the bargains he makes and typically follows the laws that he himself makes. However, his lawful nature should not be taken as inflexibility or as a lack of cunning and indeed, his patience and subtlety are legendary. He can be so persuasive in argument that even goodly beings of great wisdom and power can be deceived about his evil nature- either believing that he is merely sadly misguided or actually not as evil as their superiors would have them believe. Thrax likes to style himself as a preserver and upholder of civilization- the god willing to do what is needed to preserve the force of law and the hand of order.

When Thrax desires to make his power known directly, he manifests in the humanoid form shown. In this form, he possesses vastly superhuman strength and durability, as well as the class abilities of a 25th level blackguard and a 12th level cleric. He wields the +6 Mace of Thrax, which can mentally dominate up to six individuals per day and possesses the ability to rebuke/control devils and lawful evil clerics and blackguards at will. His entire body is made out of cold iron and he possesses the ability to shape this form at will. The extreme adaptability and malleability of this body makes him incredibly resistant to all but the most powerful magical weapons and spells. Finally, he has the ability to summon baatezu or other lawful evil creatures once per day.
