Saving Throw For Monster Energy/Level Drain Attacks?

Are characters supposed to get a save against monster energy or level drain attacks? In the saving throw section of the 4th edition PH (p.126) the first paragraph of the Energy Drain (Constitution) description would seem to indicate this.

I checked the energy drain spell description and it does allow a save. I then looked at a few monsters in the M&T and some monster attacks allow a save (devourer) and some do not (wraith) Should all monster drain attacks allow a save?

No.

It works easily. If the monster says it allows a save, allow one. If the attack/effect says "as the spell" or something similar, treat it like it was the spell. If it just says "lose one level" then tough: lose one level. Don't get hit... that's your "save."

Though my gut always says not to, I allow a save versus all energy drain attacks. Powerful and unique undead I do not allow a save as required. I do my saves with energy drain as per the Sword +2 of Life Stealing in the M&T.
