Opinions on Origins

Post by Demiurge »

What are your thoughts on Origins for my first big con? Gencon sounds fun but also overwhelming for a first timer.

Who's going this year? Are the Trolls planning on attending?

As a lead up to GenCon, sure Origins would be nice. Though, GenCon is still 10 times bigger then Origins. Origins is a great game con. There are lot of games being played, though I wish they had a more diverse variety. If you are into the popular games that are now played, Origins is sure to have it. There has been precious little C&C at Origins over the years.

The weird reason I like Origins is because of the nightlife around the Columbus Convention Center. Lots of eats, night clubs, shopping, and alternative stuff to do. Fun place around Origins. Plus, add gaming on top of that and you have a great con!

We're hoping to go this year but it seems that most of our vacation time is already eaten so we may have to wait yet once more.

I'm kicking around the idea of going to Origins this year, but may hold off for TollCon. Have to wait and see.

Make GenCon at least once, just because it's the granddaddy, but Origins is much nicer, IMO. Haven't made a TrollCon and this ain't the year for me, but SoonerCon was really nice. I definitely like the smaller cons.

Last year, there was no C&C on the schedule. I had a great time playing Savage Worlds games, but I wouldn't recommend it if you are going for C&C games--unless you can talk Omote into running some. :)

Last year's Origins was good in that I got to meet Omote & Frost. :) I don't believe I can make it this year.

The latest Troll's Tusk lists Origins as "probable". Now I'm wondering if I really need to put a new roof on our house this year...

That's cool. If TLG is going, we Crusaders need to bring the Crusade with us to support our game! Trolltastic.

Locking in the reservations tonight. I'm arriving Thursday night and leaving Sunday morning. Bringing at least two comrades in arms. I hope the Trolls and some other Crusaders show up!

Hmm, if the Trolls go, I may have to seriously try to get to Origins this year, though I'd most definitely like to get to my first GenCon!

If the Trollboys decide to go to Origins, I'll definately put it on my go to list for this year.

I wqas going to ask this but since there is already an Origins topic, I may as well ask here.

I've gone to GenCon. My second time this year. I've been to DragonCon a half-dozen times. Will Origins be a let down for me?

I've always wanted to go to Origins, but after seeing the majesty that is GenCon, I'd hate for it to be a letdown.

Possibly. You can't top GenCon for the sheer spectacle of it. However, I've really come to appreciate the smaller conventions (not that Origins is all that small).
