My Friday night LL game got canceled yet again, so I thought I'd pop in.

Sorry I missed. Got a tank weight of homework dropped on me and found out I need to have a job in 4 weeks or less. UE is near kaput. Seriously stressing.

So... is Friday Night Chat dead?
Do people use the old (I seem to prefer the old myself)... or do people do the new. Do people even chat anymore. Inquiring minds want to know.

Dang... I think I missed you. I'll be checking in and out though at the old one (link at the start of this thread). Hopefully we'll have some chatting on a bit later.

Re: Friday Night Chat
K, I'm not in both. Ning seems OK for what it does as a running chat . . like Facebook, I guess. I always turn off the FB chat.
Anyway, here we go . . .

Re: Friday Night Chat
Chat has happened... but I think the favorite is the classic java chat (despite its quirks). I know I prefer it to that Ning chat module. It would be nice to have a link on the TLG main site that directs to that chat module once again.

Just a reminder that it is Friday Night chat time (link at top of thread). Kick off spring break right (okay, so beer, babes, and Dr. Pepper are a better way to do so.

Just a reminder that there will be a Friday Nt society chat for those of us not attending GaryCon this weekend. I'll be in the room roughly 5:30pm PST. See y'all then.

Re: Friday Night Chat
Hey all, I was looking through this string and I wanted to get some feedback on the Friday Night Chat. This was going on long before I started working the Steve, so I don't know much about it. What is the difference between the ning and old chat? I gather the old is still active? If someone will fill me in, I can also do some major advertising for it on Facebook, Twitter, the blog, etc. and try to get more people involved, maybe join in a few myself. One of the things we are thinking of doing is some sort of Q&A online at the chats, and an online game/crawl one evening with Steve and a few others. How does that strike people? Thanks, Tim

Re: Friday Night Chat
The old chat (which is the better chatroom) is at the link in the first post of this thread. It allows some sounds (alas for the lost 'zilla), emoticons, and some other things. The Ning chat sort of maxes out on what you can keep track of around 6-8 folks and has a lot fewer features IMO. The old chatroom is very much still active though not many folks who used to come in to yack do so anymore. Some of this is due to real world getting in the way but I think that's actually less of an issue than folks having better things to do. I think some some of your ideas would likely liven things up Tim.

Re: Friday Night Chat
I often remember there is a Friday chat only too late. I still prefer the old chat, nothing to sign up for. Having events, speakers, and games would be great. The only thing about that is if we were to do games or events, we should have multiple chat channels, so people can just hang out in the main channel if they aren't playing.
We've had some great conversations in the Friday chats, just need to get more people aware it's there. When I first started coming to the forums, it wasn't clear to me that you didn't need to be a Society member to chat, or what the Society was, and had to get past that before I decided to start dropping in.

Re: Friday Night Chat
Hey Tim, the old one uses a simple Java interface and was around long before that 'Ning Thing' was set up. Personally, I despise the Ning interface and the necessity of having to create profile for it. I tried it and very quickly dropped it but that's my own personal opinion and there might be those that prefer it. The java chat interface isn't perfect either and it can get a bit quirky at time when there are a lot of people using it but, more often than not, it has served us very well. Prior to the java chat set up on the TLG site, the C&C Society used a similar java chat elsewhere. We simply migrated to this one once it was set up and the older one was deactivated.timburns wrote:Hey all, I was looking through this string and I wanted to get some feedback on the Friday Night Chat. The odd Q&A session would certainly work for this and, there have been times when Steve joined us to chat in the past. Something similar could be set up for actual online sessions though I would suggest a different one with a user name password set up to stop random people just popping in and out. Personally, I think Skype might be a great way to go for something like that and I'm sure quite a few of the members on these forums would agree.
I used to regularly attend the chats, though I did disappear for a few months towards later part of 2010 and early 2011. Now I try to do so every odd Friday night since half the time, I am now running a game of my own.

The 22nd of April. Anyone else having issues getting into the room? It doesn't seem to be accepting passwords or anything.

It does one of two things:
1) Service Unavailable
2) cycles through authentication request
I hope the old chat was not closed by the admins.
