Artemis Entreri C&C stats

Post by treant_on_fire »

Artemis Entreri is a D&D character I happen to really like, and C&C has the Assassin class which fits the character perfectly...

Now this is just for fun, I never use canonical characters in my games, but I thought it'd be cool to stat Entreri with C&C. I'm new to C&C so I figured I'd ask for some opinions on this forum.

I'd use the official ability scores Wizards gave him for 3.X a few years back. (I'll check them up later) But which ones would be his Primes other than Dexterity? I was thinking Con and Int... Thoughts?

What level would he be? I don't intend to stat Drizzt at the moment but he'd be higher level than Drizzt's Ranger level so their To Hit bonuses and hit points are about equal... That means Entreri needs to be particularly high-level. As a side-note, his 3.X level was 18.

While I am not really familair with this character, I do like to see converted characters C&C-ized. V3.5's level system is definitely faster then C&Cs, so this character would not be 18 in C&C.

Welcome to the boards, Treant! The old TSR Official "Hall of Heroes" book statted out Entreri and he looked like this:
Artemis Entreri
ARMOR CLASS: -1 ( -5)
MOVE: 12”
Hit Points: 80
NO. OF ATTACKS: 3
DAMAGE/ATTACK: By weapon type
SPECIAL ATTACKS: Assassination
SPECIAL DEFENSES: Never surprised
MAGIC RESISTANCE: Nil
SIZE: M (5’4’)
ALIGNMENT: Neutral Evil
PSIONIC ABILITY: Nil
Seventh-Level Human Fighter
11th-Level Assassin
S:13 I:16 W:15 D:17 C:15 CH:14

I would likely start there and do a direct conversion to C&C, but might go with a class-and-a-half character of level 18 that is Assassin/Fighter.

I agree with O. I'd make him a class-&-a-half assassin/fighter.

Great! I just finished reading "The Silent Blade", a R.A. Salvatore's Forgotten Realms Novel featuring Artemis Entreri and Drizzt Do' Urden, and I was thinking about statting Forgotten Realms heroes for C&C. Artemis Entreri is a helluva start! By the way, also I think he is a class and half assassin fighter. Great topic and great start for conversions!

So Entreri might look like this:
Artemis Entreri
Level 18 Human Assassin/Fighter (Class and a half)
S:13 I:16* W:15 D:17* CN:15* CH:14
AC= 21 (up to 25) HP= 80 BtH= 9
Eq- +3 Sabre of Wounding, Dagger +4 (defender), Leather Armor+1, +4 cloak of protection, +2 ring of protection

What's all this 'class and a half' talk? Is it from the Castle Keeper's Guide (which I don't have?).

Barring multi-class rules, Assassin can use all weapons and anyone can fight with two weapons in C&C...

But someone tell me about this 'class and a half' thingie! :-O

His dagger is vampiric, not defending. Just saying. >.>

We agree on his Primes though. :)

It is a multi-class option from the PHB (my preferred option actually).

Perhaps it is only in the more recent printings of the PHB?

Basically it is multi-classed but the secondary class only advances half as quick as the primary class.

I took the magic items directly from the Hall of Heroes official supplement, so blame them for the errors :P

It's from the 4th print PHB. If you have any other print, it wasn't there yet. Those rules didnt exist. Our group actually playtested them just before the 4th print dropped.

I'd say Int, Dex, and Str. If we're playing by the rules for class-and-a-half, he should have primes of both fighter and assassin classes.

By the book he doesnt need to take a prime in his secondary class. Entreri was tough, smart, and agile; but was never known for brute strength. ;)

Yeah, that's right...I was thinking of the regular multi-class rules. My bad. I was going to write in my last post that I agreed with your choices, but was thinking the wrong option for multi-class. My bad!

I had to edit my above post to reflect his true Base to Hit (BtH) of 9. treant, sorry, I don't know of one. I could be wrong. If someone else knows that Steve or Tim posted something like this, then I'm sure someone will chime in.

Bah it's okay, I'll buy the new printing tomorrow. I made a conscious choice to buy a used first printing to save money, but given the new rules... :p

Actually I realized I didn't buy a used copy of the first printing but the 2nd or 3rd, not sure.

Anyway, I've got the newest one. I gotta say I preferred how the previous one looked and how a single artist took care of the whole book...

That aside, I really like the 'Class and a Half' rule.

So to summarize/agree with previous posters...

Entreri is a 'Class and a Half' Assassin with Fighter as supporting class. Primes are Dex, Con and Int.

His level, let's say 18 to let him have the same amount of HD as in 3.X :p

As for his Weapon Specialization, I would actually say Dagger. Unless I remember wrong, Artemis has used rapiers or sabers in his main hand over the course of the books, which are not the same weapon. The dagger has been his one constant. Or maybe Charron's Claw was so good he didn't care about his weapon specialization... :p
But as an assassin I think it would make sense for it to be the dagger.
