Nintendo DS -- Preferred RPGs?
Nintendo DS -- Preferred RPGs?
Anyone have a Nintendo DS? If so, what RPGs would you recommend getting for it? I recently found a DS, literally, sticking out of a pile of snow. Upon drying, cleaning, and buying something to charge it with, it works... and, according to due diligence in finding its rightful owner (and being unable to do so), it is now mine... so, I'm trying to find something to use it with. A game or fifty to play.
I hear good things about the Dragon Quest series. It also seems that some old classics (Chrono Trigger and even Breath of Fire) are available as well. Anyway, if you happen to have opinions, please state them.

I'll relay this to my daughter, mistress of all things Nintendo, tonight.
Although she's targeted this towards parents of gaming kids, you might find something of interest at her blog:

Re: Nintendo DS -- Preferred RPGs?
Dragon Warrior (Dragon Quest) I-VI, Dragon Quest IX, Etrian Odyssey I-III, Y's Books I-II, Lunar, Lunar Dragon Song, Phantasy Star 0, Phantasy Star Collection (includes Phantasy Star I, II, IV), Final Fantasy III-IV.
If you like the classic CRPG Wizardry (with all of the bang your head against the wall toughness), I highly suggest The Dark Spire.
If you are into modern, teenage japanese demon RPGs, I also HIGHLY suggest Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor!
For action RPGs (like Zelda, but better IMO), I'g highly suggest the Golden Sun series (Golden Sun I-II, Dark Dawn).
Other than Phantasy Star 0 (which is first person RPG), these are all classic console style RPGs. The Lunar games, if you are familar with the originals are not as good as the PSX versions, but still worth a go.
Some of these games are Game Boy Advance games, which will work on a normal Nintendo DS (some will not work on DSi/DSi XL/DSi 3D).
I love classic RPGs, and love that DSX has continued the 90's RPGs in glory!
All of these games I'd rate at better then a 7 on a scale of 11.

The Fire Emblem titles are my top pick for the GBA. Tactical RPGs. (I'm currently replaying Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance on the GameCube.)

Well, to each his own. Frankly, there were several series like classic Zelda that came out over the years that are much better. My favorites being Golden Sun (GBA, DS) and Alundra (PSX). Forget Alundra II though. Zelda is still pretty good, but it get's better recognition because of the classic name.

Well, now that I have figured out what the R4 card thing was, and how to remove the games preinstalled on it (apparently someone was being naughty) I can have a whole lot more fun... goodbye all those craptacular wrestling and racing games, hello something worthwhile. Oh, and a DSi can apparently play music files... now to get MP3s converted to AAC. That'll be easy though.

RADIANT HISTORIA, by Atlus

DUDE! I just got this game in today for the DS, and have been playing it for a few hours now. Very cool. Very unique. You can actually go back in time to change events you already completed and try to change the course of the game! Pretty neat, great DS RPG. Very steampunkish if you are into that sort of thing.
Up next, Dragon Quest VI (finally stateside).
