How to convert old school monsters to C&C

Post by nudnic »

Can anyone point me to a guide on converting old school monsters to C&C.

What about AC, for example how do you convert old school AC 5 to C&C?

While we're on the conversion subject what about 3.5 is there a conversion system for 3.5 monster to C&C?

Goodman Games forums had a great tutorial on this, but honestly it breaks down to subtracting the AD&D/D&D AC from 20 (so a 5 would be 15 or a -2 would be 22). Heres a link to the long version:

AC: subtract from 20
Movement: multiply by 2.5, round to nearest 10 (nearest 5 if result is less than 20), change inches to feet
Assign Saves (P, M, P+M, or N)
Magic Resistance: divide by 5, remove % sign

I think that's it in most cases.

More or less, yeah. AC can be a bit tricky, though. If you compare some C&C monsters to their AD&D forefathers, you'll find some surprising AC differences. Giants, for example...

Ya, I've noticed that. It happens to some low level monsters too - the AC gets bumped up one or two to give the poor guys a chance. The above guidelines are just a baseline.
