Maptool Campaign Repository

Post by Demiurge »

Has anyone tried exporting the Maptool campaign repository file and uploading it to a dedicated server (your ISP, Dropbox, etc)? From what I'm reading this process is supposed to help with loading images faster and was just curious if you noticed a big difference or not.

Haven't tried that . . but in troubleshooting some problems for Rigon, our group direct connected to his compy and map loading was very fast (not unexpected considering)!

I tried this for my last game and it worked really well with a free Dropbox account.

I had 2 pretty "busy" maps with lots of tokens and images and the download of everything (after deleting my ".maptool" folder to equate to a new install) was 3 minutes. While this is slightly faster than before with just one player connected, it was much faster than when everyone was connected all at once. It also allowed me to host the Skype call with no issues.

Full details on how this works can be found here.
