Rules Translation?

Post by Joe »

Do you guys really bother?

I never saw the need to sit down and do rules translations from AD&D, D&D whatever version of basic, 2e, 3e, C&C, Pathfinder, whatever.

I have been making translations on the fly since back in the day of Keep on the Borderlands while playing AD&D and it has never slowed the game.

I'm wondering what exactly folks translate ahead of time and what it has done for your game.

With C&C I have been able to translate on the fly since almost the beginning. Back when I did 2E I did the same when I ran 1E or D&D materials. 3E is the only time I stopped doing things on the fly, then 3E flew when I threw it out. Metaphorically, I kept all my books, they are great resources.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.
Sounds obvious to me! -Gm Michael

I metaphorically use them to prop up my lopsided bookcase.

Your right though...a lot more work up front was needed for 3.x and when I treated it like any other game I ever ran I was reminded I was not doing it "properly".

Ohh...please do tell how I should run my own game in my own house more properly.
Thats like the 18 year old that corrected me when I said hobbit instead of halfling.

But back to my original thread.

What sort of stuff are you guys that do translating?

When I am doing it for someone else, yes, I will write it down. For example, when my wife wants to play a character with spells not in the PHB, I will convert some over... or, if its something I decide I want to share with the "community," then I will waste the time needed. But, for myself, I don't need that -- I can just use whatever. Maybe its not 100% perfect, but it was not that way to begin with so I can't say I care.

I know this is not on topic, but I do need C&C rules translated into German and Japanese. That would be nice.
