Need help for online tabletop
Need help for online tabletop
We need help. We have been using gametable for our online gaming. Now, gametable is not working. What does everyone else use? We have 2 mac users and 2 pc. We had looked at maptools but it seemed to complicated where gametable is simple. Please help.

Maptool is the least complicated cross platform virtual gaming surface that I've personally tried. If not that, then perhaps Battlegrounds, which is also fairly simple to use and cross platform. I purchased a license for that one but we only got to use it a couple of times before our online game got canned due to scheduling conflicts.

As BD pointed out Mordrene, maptools is certainly the program of choice for most of us that game online here. I've used gametable years ago, and openrpg after that. Since then, every game I am playing, not only C&C, but others, we have used maptool. It has its issues like all programs, but it can be used as simple or as complex as you like. Some of us when running games use it just for simple maps and tokens with macros. Others make use of all the bells and whistles that it provides. CK's choice really on how complicated you want it to be.
As long as someone can 'host' a server, which a few of us in my gaming circle can do, it is a very easy program to use.
Maybe if you can sit in on someone's online game here to see for yourself on how it can used used. Check this online part of this site and contact a CK

As others have noted, the pretty much universal choice here is maptoolsmordrene wrote:We need help. We have been using gametable for our online gaming. Now, gametable is not working. When you say complicated, do you mean complicated to sign in to the server, or complicated during actual gameplay?
If you mean gameplay, then as LS states, you can just add maps from your HD as background images, and drop any old thing for tokens. Or use it simply as a whiteboard. It is quite easy after the first session or two. Here are some tutorial videos (click on the section name to start the video)

If you mean connecting/hosting a server, then yes, that can be tricky at the beginning and produce various annoyances as you go along. Macs might make this process a bit trickier. But, there is some info at the above site, and people here who use it could probably give some tips
I don't know if gametable requires one player to "host" a server, but if not, then you may need to learn how to set up port forwarding for your router (find your router name below and follow the instructions)

Good luck and have fun!
