Mystara surprisingly redone! How it is possible???

Post by mostrojoe »

A free Mystara setting has been realized for the "Dragon Age" RPG. It is a free product so I think I am not doing any sort of damage to the TLG folks.

I am amazed this setting has been reworked after... almost 20 years from the last published official product??

Amazing to see new, XXI° century arts and graphics when talking about the Known World!

That's pretty interesting, I will have to check that out. I'd love to go back to Alfheim one more time.

Cool, it is still one of my favourite settings. I'll check it out.

It is even pretty accurate when it's time to deal with the races and the particular twists of the cultures. Very well done!

Damn... TLG could do even better than that, I'm sure!

Did some searching. Is this what you are talking about?

Took a quick look at it, definitely a must-have for anyone who likes both Mystara and the AGE engine. Haven't evaluated how good it is for those who want to use it for C&C or d20.

I would also hope that TLG does not rely excessively on re-making things like Mystara, but instead, can make their own distinctive products and settings that stand out from the rest.

A couple of semi-random thoughts come to mind:
1. The Mystara remake in the link isn't for C&C and it's not by TLG.
2. TLG doesn't have the rights to re-make classic TSR settings, even if they wanted to.
3. Based on what we've seen so far, they don't seem to want to.

I guess I look at re-made settings in two ways. If it's a setting I like a lot, I'd like to have it converted into my favorite system for me instead of having to do it. On the other hand, I tire of groups that re-make and re-make again the same stuff -- Ravenloft, Dark Sun, Blackmoor, Greyhawk were all done in one game line then redone several times and I hate to re-buy something I already have.

Particularly since the first time we see a setting usually seems to be the best one.

A nice piece of work. Too bad it doesn't have the maps to go with it for folks not having them already.
