C&C Wilderlands Conversion
I know that James Mishler did a lot of work for his take on the Wilderlands for C&C, but has anyone converted the Wilderlands races to C&C?

Re: C&C Wilderlands Conversion
I've had the pleasure of playing with James at my FLGS. For the main series of Wilderland adventures, he has stipulated that all PCs be human. There were different cultures, but nothing that required anything different from the human race rules in the PHB - just a list of cultures, languages, religions, etc..
For a few other sessions with a smaller group, he allowed non-human races, but again, he just had us use the race rules in the PHB, if I recall correctly.
To be frank, I'm not terribly familiar with the Wilderlands outside of my games with James (it's been my introduction to it, for the most part), and have only just started reading up on it in any detail at all. Are there other races than those in the PHB?

Re: C&C Wilderlands Conversion
There is a host of player created races running around. I have 5 or 6 additional races for my game.
Unless you're talking about the wilderlands stuff, of which I have no idea.

Re: C&C Wilderlands Conversion
The Wilderlands has a bunch of unique races. These races look more or less human, but usually have a distinct skin tone. For example, the Valonians have blue skin, resistance to cold, etc. Necromancer Games' Players Guide to the Wilderlands details them all (and I own that), but I was wondering if there was an C&C version of it. Converting from the Players Guide probably won't be too hard.

Right, that's what I'm talking about - he's pretty much just treating all of those races as cultures and using the general mechanics for the human race from the PHB. He might just be doing that to keep things simple for us, though - most of us are new to C&C. I'll ask him at our next game in a couple of weeks and see if he has anything more specific.

Oh ok. Got it. I'm tempted to do that too, really.

Excellent info, thanks!
Re: C&C Wilderlands Conversion
If you haven't checked out Robert Conley's "Majestic Wilderlands", it's worth a look (even though it's for S&W). Pretty easy to convert...Frost wrote:I know that James Mishler did a lot of work for his take on the Wilderlands for C&C, but has anyone converted the Wilderlands races to C&C?

I gather than James intended on fleshing out each of the human cultures, apparently with different racial abilities. I haven't looked at anything other than the preview, but I think James has a copy at the store - I'll check next time I'm there.

Okay, I dropped by my FLGS today. James wasn't there, but I took at a look at the Tharbrian Horse-Lords player's guide. Indeed, he does treat them more like demi-humans - only two primes, but a variety of racial abilities (mostly based on horsemanship and outdoorsmanship).
Maybe we can talk James into coming out of retirement so he can write the rest of them.

Re: C&C Wilderlands Conversion
Hiya Frost! Hope you are enjoying adventuring in the Wilderlands!
Here are some ideas:
Any "Skill Bonuses" simply add to the character's roll whenever performing the similar function in C&C. Example: Skandiks recieve a +2 bonus on all checks related to Swimming.
"Skill Penalties" add to the CL of the action. Example: Orichalans suffer a CL 1 penalty to all reaction rolls.
Attribute Modifiers: these should all, of course, be halved, i.e., a +2 is a +1, a +4 is a +2, and so forth.
Anything that is listed as being a "class skill regardless of class" means that the any action that is skill-related is treated as being a Prime even if the actual attribute isn't a Prime; if it is a Prime, I'd give it a +1 bonus. Example: The aforementioned Skandiks always make Swim checks as though their Strength is a Prime; if it is already a Prime, they get a +1 bonus (which would stack with their normal +2 bonus), plus all Sail checks are considered Prime.
Bonus weapon proficiencies are as per C&C. Example: an Antillian wizard would be proficient with a rapier.
Bonus feats... I'd simply give the character an equivalent bonus or special ability in C&C terms. Example: Dunael get +1 damage versus orcs and may Intimidate orcs like a barbarian once per day when fighting orcs, regardless of their class (or if you choose, can use something like rage from 3E).
Favored Classes of course do not enter into C&C in general, though you might want to modify the multi-classing rules to take them into account, wherein if the multi-class character with two classes has a class that is "favored" in the PGW, he suffers only half the usual additional EP requirement (i.e., for two classes only 100 at 2nd, 200 at 3rd, 400 at 4th, etc.); if he has three classes, he only suffers the additional EP requirement for two classes, instead.

Yup, just trying to keep things simple for this campaign... we have little enough time as it is, sadly, only three hours every two weeks (when we're lucky)... There are all sorts of things that we could use, but would just overly complicate things for a simple game. Maybe one of these days I can get a home campaign started. Oh, to dream...kreider204 wrote:Right, that's what I'm talking about - he's pretty much just treating all of those races as cultures and using the general mechanics for the human race from the PHB. I had indeed intended on writing a full series on the races of the Wilderlands in like vein... but like so many of my intentions regarding AGP and the Wilderlands, all came to naught.kreider204 wrote:Okay, I dropped by my FLGS today. That's fine by me - I prefer to keep racial traits fairly simple, and treat human "races" as different cultures, for flavor (that's how I handle Greyhawk, anyway).jamesmishler wrote:Yup, just trying to keep things simple for this campaign... we have little enough time as it is, sadly, only three hours every two weeks (when we're lucky)... James, thanks for posting! Just kicked off my campaign in the Southern Reaches using your great map (excellent work by you and Peter). Thanks for the input.
I've picked up just about all (if not all) of your Wilderlands materials. Great stuff.

I know, I know... I have really been slacking on the blog. Between hunting for a job, the wife and kids, and prepping for the campaign itself, I haven't found much time to blog it up.
