Undead Characters
I haven't turned up anything yet on a forum search, but has anyone worked up undead player characters before? T'lan Immas from the Malazan books got me thinking of it. Of course, in those books the undead would be a race, but I'm thinking do it as a class so that any of the races can be a sentient undead.

Re: Undead Characters
I would do race-as-class for undead characters, particularly if the undead race you are thinking about do the same type of thing. For example: Vampires. This could be a race-as-class as all vamps usually do the same type of class "things."

Nope. Haven't done it... won't do it... not my cup o' tea. Its much more enjoyable to convert a PC to undead and then run the newly created undead as a NPC.CosmicCowboy wrote:I haven't turned up anything yet on a forum search, but has anyone worked up undead player characters before? <snip>

Re: Undead Characters
A while back I posted a customizable Vampyre race that could be used for both PCs and NPCs. It was intended to replicate the vampires of Gothic fiction specifically. The essential features are:
Most Vampyres are created when a person dies an unnatural death, or possessed an unnatural quality in life (such as being a sorcerer or lycanthrope)
The character's race is "Vampyre", or changes to "Vampyre" if she becomes a vampire during play.
The character usually retains their previous Class, unless it was Paladin or Cleric.
The character is Undead, with appropriate bonuses and weaknesses (such a s being subject to Turning)
The Vampyre must drink 1 pint of fresh blood, per Level, each night.
The Vampyre can function during the day, but has no special powers.
Each Level, the character gains a Vampyric Power (such assuming Gaseous Form) that she can use once a night, and an additional Vampyric Debility (such as being frightened of holy symbols) that the character suffers at all times.
The Vampyre is damned to wander the earth without rest. They can apparently be killed with ordinary means during the day, but unless destroyed properly they always reform at night.
The full Class is on my blog.

Re: Undead Characters
Those are some good places to start. I like the race as class, and a lot of what is in the Vampyre race.
