Question about entangle spell(possible A1 spoilers)

Post by tylermo »

My players are still making their way through the A-series. A1 Assault on BTR, and the other BTR add-on's. The players have stumbled upon Vargolg(one of the rumored treasure houses along the Blacktooth Ridge). There has been some outdoor combat, but quite a bit of dungeon-delving. Our token female player is playing a druid. She's occasionally used animal friendship, or a couple of 0 level spells. Otherwise, it's been good berries out the wazoo. She's asking about the possibility of using Entangle indoors. I think the description says something about vines, but what about the possibility of roots coming up through cracks in floors? Thanks.

maybe you could make her carry green vines as the spel component and part of teh spell is her throwing the plant at the enemy. thus teh spell woud cause teh living vines to expand and entangle her targets. just an idea.

That's a thought. I'll certainly text her and pass that idea along. Thanks. Might have wait until she gets out of Vargolg, then she'll stuff her robes full of vines. Haha

It's never come up in my game, but I have heard GMs allowing ropes to be used for the entangle spell. Since it's a druid spell, it's not in the spirit, but still an option.

RAW Entangle is a pretty useless spell indoors (I'm currently playing a druid in the A series campaign as well). If you were to allow the vines, there would only be enough to affect one creature vs the area of effect. This is simply due to the limitations of how many vines a single person could carry.

i agree, one vine per target or maybe with a ranged touch . have the vine wrapped up in a ball with a rock for weight and give it a range of the rock. that way she can prepare her tangle grenades ahead of time.

Tell her it's old school and smash her dice with a hammer.

Ha ha. Old school, huh? As for the tangle grenades, that might work in a pinch. I might allow it. Thanks.

Well, if I were that druid, I'd lay the vines down on both sides of any corridor I'd want to trap, back off a ways and wait for whatever comes down that corridor, setting off the spell when they get between the vine piles. Make for a nice roadblock to anything coming behind them as well.

Or, simply have some underground areas where tree roots have broken through from above: that'd give the raw material to use.
