The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey movie trailer

Post by TheMetal1 »

The first trailer comes out tomorrow, figured I'd post a day early to get the thread started. But here at least is a picture of what appears to be Bilbo Baggins and some of the Dwarves

Image

More info here at the Hobbit Blog ( http://www.thehobbitblog.com/ ) and they will likely post the trailer first thing tomorrow.

Looks like a LEGO Lord of the Rings and Hobbit is coming our way as well.

I've been reading The Hobbit to my son at bedtime. Hopefully by the time this comes out, he'll be old enough to sit through a whole movie at the theater. And I love the Lego Star Wars games, so I'm sure I'll love these as well.

Yaaargh! Gaaarble! Someone please tell that there will be a normal version as well as a 3D one. I'm one of those that get blinding headaches from 3D (As well as wear glasses). Or, will I have to wait for the boxed set? (Which really isn't all that bad as I really liked the extended (Directors Cut) version of the first 3 films over the theater releases.)

Yeah, I'm not keen on the 3D either for various reasons including the headaches. But hopefully that won't be the case here. Peter Jackson worked with a 3D camera company to come up with a rig that better simulates the physical distance between human eyes. Typically, the dual lens systems are too wide - too far apart from one another which is one major thing that greatly contributes to the headaches. This is the first 3D movie that I'm actually looking forward to.

Red, you just taught me a lesson. I learned not to set on the couch with my daughters, click on a link, and as it is slowly loading, go to poor a cup of coffee. There is no way to get back in time to keep the little ones from seeing/hearing something that their mom will not approve of once the song starts

Putting that small fact aside, I agree!!!

Oh Kim, thanks for posting the link!

Hope you all have a good one!

OK, that's just funny right there. I can hear it now, "Daddy, what's 'jizz'?"

I totally have that song stuck in my head!

Tragic about the kids, though.

Just watched it for the fifth time. Hearing the Dwarves in harmony gives me goosebumps everytime. As excited as I am for the movie, I'm almost equally excited to hear the soundtrack.

I know, right? You wouldn't expect such beautiful singing from these guys. :)
I always heard that song in my head as being more up beat. Hearing it this way caught me off guard, but damn if I don't like it more now.

Yeah that would be bad, but them asking mommy would be worse, and even more so if it was granny or their Sunday school /wed night church teacher! :o

Relaxo, Oh that's just part of the joy of daddy-hood. It's kind of funny when you think about it, at least it would have been funny to be a fly on the wall and see the "Oh NOOOOOO" look on my face when the song started and me trying to hurry to turn if off without making the little ones interested in why I'm hurrying to turn it off.
As excited as I am for the movie, I'm almost equally excited to hear the soundtrack.

Does Thorin Oakenshield look a little too Johnny Depp-ish, or is it just me?

Yeah, or something. He definitely lacks the beard of a great dwarven leader, and the impressive nose. He doesn't look...dwarfy...enough.

I bet they had this exact same conversation in the production meetings. Probably came down to character differentiation. Imagine running a game with the dwarves as PCs with those names!

You know it. Weird that they didn't make him look like a dwarf but, a human. Director screwed up.

Maybe he is like a diplomat for humans. ;)

Anyway, my complaint is there is clearly not enough blunderbuss'. I always picture dwarves with blunderbuss'.

I thought Thorin looked more Klingon than Dwarven, but I think that's just the actor's high/large forehead.

I bet there's some thought in the production that he needs to be 'human-handsome' to help the female human movie goers connect to him as a handsome, charismatic leader type, instead of a weird hairy little ugly guy. Just a guess.

He and the guy all the way on the right really look very human, but it's all good, I bet. We, as fans, are never 100% satisfied, LOL.

but seriously, This dude totally looks Klingon...

Thorin wasn't quite what I expected. Upon seeing him close up, he doesn't just look like a Klingon, he looks like that Klingon leader from Next Gen and DS9. Just lost my geek cred for not remembering the character's name. :-(.

Wow! Good call!

Though, seeing them side by side, Thorin does look more dwarvish/human than klingon, IMO. I havn't read the Hobbit in well over a decade... is Thorin a younger dwarf? Not a child, but I mean like, not an elder old-ass like 500 year old dwarf? He's got a touch of grey in this movie, which I think is a good, um... touch.

Klingond aside I was also struck by Thorin being the least dwarven/most human looking one. At the time I put it down to him being a but younger (years since I read it but I remember he was not the oldest?) & maybe they get more dwarfey over time?

The singing was actually a pretty cool moment, I really wondered whether it would just be silly in a film but it seemed really well handled to me.
