Broken Links in the M&T Kindle ebook

Post by AnthonyRoberson »

So, I plopped down $9.99 for the Kindle ebook version of Monsters & Treasures and I find that many of the links in the magic items section of the Table of Contents don't work. Also, why no monster illustrations?

Well, not sure on the first one. Ill go see what's up. But as for the 2nd. Graphics don't translate to kindle very well, for one thing. It takes a lot of particular formatting of the base file to put graphics in, otherwise the kindle conversion process just flings all the pictures in the back in a big jumble. The pictures, being odd shapes, also make the page formatting look unsightly, with huge white space areas.

In that case, the product description needs to state the omission... No excuses.

I own more than half a dozen Kindle books with illustrations so it is definitely possible. The ToC issue is just unacceptable. RPG books are REFERENCE books for God sakes! TLG needs to AT LEAST apologize for this issue. I have not heard a peep from them. At this point I am feeling more and more like I poured 9.99 down the drain.

Not a full out apology, and it isn't in this thread but was addressed in another similar thread.

Mr. Roberson,

I appreciate you bringing this to our attention. Peter Bradley, an employee and representative for TLG addressed the TOC issue above. TO elaborate, when we submitted it to Amazon for approval the links worked. They approved it. What's happened since that time I cannot say. The upload process may have damaged the coding. I don't know. As Peter explained above we are looking into it.

Also, as Peter explained above we have had a terrible time with graphics in the Kindle version of books. Amazon informed us that they did not have a platform that was friendly to graphics heavy books. Now, that said, you said you have graphics heavy books on your Kindle, if you would be so kind as to list a few titles so that I can check with the publishers and find out what they did or what software they are using I would very grateful.

Now I do understand that the Kindle Fire actually has a better platform for this but I have not had the opportunity to check into that.

As regards to you demand we make you an apology. I apologize for any inconvenience this issue has caused you.

Kind Regards,
Steve

Steve,

First of all, let me apologize if I came across as an asshat or douche. I am a BIG fan of C&C and I own more than a $100 of your product in both physical and electronic form. I was really looking forward to using M&T on my Kindle Fire and I guess I overreacted when I discovered the lack of illos and the ToC issue...

For the record, I also checked out the book on my Android phone and Mac and they both had the broken links problem. Also, I certainly wasn't 'demanding' an apology but as a customer, I did feel like I deserved one for what I see as a defective product. Thank you for offering it. I am sure that I will continue to be a C&C fan for years to come.

Thank you,

Anthony Roberson

After soliciting feedback elsewhere I want to say I am sorry for my ill considered ' I want an apology' comment. It was just plain douchy of me... :(

Never fear my friend. The internet never comes across as you want it to.

Interesting you noted that Kindle Fire, I keep hearing it has better graphics platforms. The real problem with the Kindle is it has its own conversion. The Nook and Itunes are much easier. But I've put a halt on all these releases until we can fix these problems. Should be sometime next month.

Thanks!

I have a nook (e-ink). Can TL's post some screen shots in the appropriate product area when done with conversions? I'm expecting lots of B&N gift cards for X-mas... :D

That we can do. I do intend to focus more on these three online retail giants come the new year and bring that whole side of our business up to speed.

Takes a big person to apologize. Well done. Need more of this in the world.
