Videochat Games: Constantcon Welcome + Q&A
This is a post to tell people about Constantcon and answer any questions about it:
What's Constantcon?
So, right now we have about 300-odd people on Google+ who regularly play games using Google +'s free multi person video chat. It's called Constantcon. You are all invited to come and play.
What kind of games do you play?
Any RPG. Since the idea of Constantcon started in the Old School gaming blogs, most (but by no means all) of the games are old style games or retroclones, but everyone is welcome. People play Mouse Guard and sci fi games and Fiasco and all kinds of things on there.
How do I announce that I want to run a game?
Submit here.
How do I join a game?
2 things:
1. Search the Constantcon blog for games you want to play and follow the directions for that game
2. Make a Google + profile and add people already playing to your "circles" a lot of people announce on-the-spot pick up games there.
What are the technical requirements?
Once you start a "hangout" on G+ it gives you a plug in to install. Other than that, so long as you have a mike and a camera on a computer you're good to go.
G+ claims you can have up to 10 people on video chat but we've found that after 5 people it can start to get a little frizzy.
Is it fun or is it dumb?
Everybody who plays keeps coming back and we're having a ton of fun. If you hunt around my blog or Jeff's Gameblog you'll see a lot of after action reports but I don't want to spam up the board with links here.
I see this acronym FLAILSNAILS around--what's that mean?
FLAILSNAILS is just this idea we came up with allowing PCs from one (usually D&D or D&D-derived) game to move to another DM's game and system with no sweat. Saying "I allow FLAILSNAILS PCs" in your game announcement is just a quick way to say "if you have a character from any version of D&D you can use him/her in this game, though if the system is way different than the one I'm using talk to me first". It stands for Free Location And Inclusion Laws Stimulating New And Interesting Leisure Situations. More (mostly unnecessary) details here.
For example, I have a 5th level thief that's been under like 10 different DMs and 6 or 7 systems in the last few months.
Know that not all Constantcon games are FLAILSNAILS (for example, there's a Runequest game that only takes Runequest-native PCs) and not all FLAILSNAILS games are Constantcon (for example, many PCs generated for on-line games have gone on to play in real-life games with sypathetic GMs).
Many more FAQ-type details int his endless post here. (Don't worry, that part of my blog is SFW).
Anyway, if you have any questions, go ahead and ask, kids.

Re: Video chat games on G+ Constantcon
I am planning on running a game uing google plus and twiddla. And might have a space at the virtual game table for another player. The start times would suit Europeans.
