New Landscape Screens
They are so... cute!
I'm not sure if rough and tumble, manly CKs like the idea that the screens are cute, but they are quite neat. When I think of screens, something like TLG's new casebound, landscape screens do not come to mind. But don't let that deter you, these things are BADASS (and cute)!
The screen is slight, only about 8" tall and abut 16" wide. There are two screens with 75% new artwork on the player side. On the CK side, there are the standard C&C useful tables... BUT, not the tables that we have been accustomed to for the past 4-5 years. Sure, there's the standard battle related charts and notes. But what is really cool, is the new charts they added to this screen. No more looking up some of these things in the PHB/CKG. Here are the new charts:
Impact of Negative HP
Expanded Attribute Modifiers (to 30)
Combat Maneuvers (including manuevers from CKG)
Expanded Surprise Circumstances (+ to CL)
Weather Patterns
Movement Rates and effect on Overland Travel
-Movement by Terrain Type
-Obsticles
-Movement in Weather
Weather
Common Provisions
Lodging
Meals
Urban Center Statistics
Light Sources (and viewable distances)
Swimming checks
Equipment Usage (basic equipment wastage rules)
SPECIAL NOTE: THE FONT SIZE OF THE CHARTS IS ACTUALLY LARGER! No more squinting.
The stuff that TLG took off the these screens (equipment listings, character abilites through 12th level) I never used anyway. These new charts and tables were picked pretty well and go directly to the CKG running the game and not character information that the PCs would know anyway.
Overall, though slight, AND CUTE (and I'll keep saying that), these screens are awesome. I'm note sure if there are other screens like this on the RPG market, but these seem unique and just flat out cool. These new screens, because they are so small when compared to previous screens, remind me directly how little amount of STUFF is needed to play the C&C game. Good work guys, and thanks.

I used class ability and equipment charts. I guess my fortress will have a curtain wall; I'll use my old screen and the new one. The players won't even know what I look like...

Re: New Landscape Screens
Looking forward to getting the new portrait screen and this one. If I can find room at the table, I intend to use both. Sounds like the new screen is going to be more useful than I thought. Shame both aren't the same size. From what I've seen, I prefer the art from the original screen. IMO, that particular piece should be the new cover for the phb 5th printing.

Re: New Landscape Screens
I am glad you liked them. at first, I was very dubious about the screens and was not a little reluctant to go forward. but we did. Once I held the finished product in my hand, I really started to groove on them. I liked the feel, the layout, the unobtrusive nature of them etc. I am going to speak to Steve about creating different at for the covers so we might have a few selections. I am not sure he would want to as it creates more work. For him. Me I don't care.

Re: New Landscape Screens
I like the individual pictures on the screen; I am generally a fan of Mr. Bradley's work. But it doesn't flow as a continuous layout. The brightly colored women-entering-a-portal is jarring with the dark theme, and the smearing at the bottom with the adjacent right-hand scene isn't enough to tie it together.
But I don't have to look at that side of the screen, so what do I care.

Well heck, guess I need to go buy the dang thing now! <grumbles>
Re: New Landscape Screens
Perhaps it is just me, but I miss the screens that had one centerpiece of art and the shoulders had player information, such as spell lists, saving throws, equipment, etc. Don't really think the entire front needs to be a picture.
But, then, I don't really use a screen anyway, so this may just be a fanciful preference, easily ignored.

I keep peeking out the window to see if mine's arrived. /sigh

Man, they sound great. Going to have to wait until budget allows for this one, though.

Yes, that, or just an admonishment that I, the CK, am always right and should not be trifled with.serleran wrote:Perhaps it is just me, but I miss the screens that had one centerpiece of art and the shoulders had player information, such as spell lists, saving throws, equipment, etc. Don't really think the entire front needs to be a picture.

Just got mine today. Look sleek and cool.
I agree the one brighter piece of art does stand out.
But i do so like Bradleys back side paintings.

Heh.
I just received mine, and the contrast between the light and dark wasn't as bad as I thought; it looks pretty OK.
Might want to change "Catagory" to "Category" though.

Re: New Landscape Screens
Peter seems to be from the Frazetta School of Woman's Backsides. I am 200% okay with that.
Note: I don't think this is on the screen, I just like the pic.

Re: New Landscape Screens
I think Bradley is currently my favorite artist simply because he draws such lovely postieriors.
As far as the screen gos... I set it on my game table and i love it. Much better view of the table. I plan to put my dice tower dead center and flank it with the screens.

Is a full image of the artwork available online? I'm very interested in this product, but whether or not I buy it may well depend on what artwork I'd have facing my wife.

For this alone I'll buy my 3rd screen for these tired old eyes.Omote wrote:SPECIAL NOTE: THE FONT SIZE OF THE CHARTS IS ACTUALLY LARGER! No more squinting.
Edit: I should mention that the portrait case screens that I accidentally bought, I've grown to like them. Plus what was left off the new screens would be helpful for someone who is a rookie CK. The four screens would look like castle with one big Crenel and two smaller Merlons on each side.

Re: New Landscape Screens
It does look pretty readable. If I am being nitpicky though, mine looks like it was done on a slightly out of alignment printer; there is a bit of color shifting around the fonts. It's not major, but I noticed it; it makes things slightly blurry.Sir Ironside wrote:For this alone I'll buy my 3rd screen for these tired old eyes.Omote wrote:SPECIAL NOTE: THE FONT SIZE OF THE CHARTS IS ACTUALLY LARGER! I just clicked open this thread to lament my continued wait when my daughter yelled down, "Package!" My screen has arrived and it's...adorable. Functional, and simply adorable.MormonYoYoMan wrote:(sulk) Still waiting for mine. (sulk, pout)

Congratulations sir.
I am eagerly anticipating a box of goodies from the Trolls...
But alas, nothing was awaiting me when I arrived home this evening.
I guess I'll just have to see if She wants to try Harvesters after dinner

A shipment arrived at my house, but it was just the first half. Both screens, aihrde maps, and some other things are yet to come. In the meantime, I'm enjoying A8 and 9, Malady of Kings, Engineering Castles, Fields of Battle, the CKG(Walksworth printing), etc.
