Red, I'm with you on this. Just some background. I had tried out a few years ago doing Paizo's Pathfinder Wonderous Item Creation for their RPG Superstar Contest. So I figured, i give it a whirl to see how C&C worked RAW. Trying to do it that way was a bit confusing to say the least, by trying to follow the letter of the law. Ultimately, as I demonstrated in the magic Item post with the Haste Bow, it can be down rather quickly like you said if you do it in the true C&C spirit. To me it was just some clarification needed.

Yeah, I think this would be a good way to address various topics, errata, recommendations. Good Call Aergraith.
By the way Arduin and Red thanks for offering the help!

Triple thumbs up (since I only have 2, I used another appendage to complete the triumvirate! Hope you don't mind)!

Folks, its a pretty safe bet that the 5th printing is just going to be more errata fixes. What little remain anyhow. Sure, I could probably re arrange a picture or two. But the problem with adding anything is the fact that the book is pretty packed as it is. Any additional material is 1) going to make things look a bit cramped, or 2) it'll make the book longer and more expensive. The cover, at least, is undergoing a re design. I'm fiddling around with a concept which will make its appearance in the forthcoming classic monster book, but the composition still needs some overhaul for what I plan for the 5th printing cover. In other words, I'm picky and I still haven't got the composition right. :)

Didn't mean to insinuate there would or should be major edition changes to C&C. Probably should have asked what folks would change about the game IF anything at all. I'm torn between the current logo and the upcoming one. Let us see them side by side. As for the cover, I think the portrait screen art should be the cover for the phb. That one says it all.

Pathfinder outsells D&D on Amazon:

#2 Pathfinder Core Rulebook
#3 Pathfinder Beginner Box
...
#8 D&D Red box (new)
#42 D&D Dungeon Master's Guide

I realize that's only a single measure of "dominance" but PFRPG has been outselling D&D on Amazon for quite some time now. Add the various non-D&D RPGs and WotC FAR from dominates. They have a decent market share, no doubt, but their competition, especially from the boys at Paizo, is stiff.

Update: If you just go to "Gaming" in the hardcover Science Fiction & Fantasy subcategory of books, the listings break down different, but PFRPG is still on top.
None of which disproves what I said which is that WotC dominates and controls a majority of the market. You have proven that amazon sold more PF books recently which is good. I like paizo so...

I wasn't necessarily attempting to prove or disprove anything. Indeed, you bear the burden of proof to demonstrate that D&D 4th edition "dominates and controls the majority of the market." I have nothing to prove but found an interest in the topic itself.

Having said that, neither company exactly boasts market share data, so we have to draw what conclusions we can from the sources available to us. In this case, Amazon ranking at least gives us a glimpse. Additionally, some Google-fu on discussions related to D&D 4e market share reveals some interesting insights, especially from retailers (example, this from 2009 during the release and ascent of PFRPG). I would extrapolate that 4e's market share continued a steady decline from 2009, which means now, nearly 3 years later, it may still have the single RPG majority market share, but hardly "dominates." Of course, whether or not someone or something is dominating someone or something else is subjective.

If I were attempting to prove, however, that WotC and their 4th edition no longer dominate the genre, I would point to the fact that WotC is now creating a new edition. A sure sign that they at least realize that their current version has run its course and is drying up.

Just hoping the 5th printing might mean a new set of faux leather hardbacks at some point. Saw a few pictures of those online and very much want something like that.

Heck, there are members and ex-members of WotC's own crew that are saying that 4th Ed was the worst mistake they could have made; that by splitting the customer base by changing the game so extremely, they've diluted the influence and control that D&D (and by extension WotC) has over the market.

I, personally, think this is a good thing, of course.

Yes a book like that would be great.

The game is great like it is. Print a 5th but dont change anything. You can add some detail for spel resisitance and fly maneuverabilty. But the siege engine is great. Leave it alone.

And no, WotC no longer dominates. That is why 5ed is on the way....

no thanx. I appreciate very much the idea behind printings: you don't have to upgrade to the new edition, each printing only rectifies the errors of the previous editions.
For sure, I think, Vth ed of D&D will try to conquest the heart (and the money) of many grognards: The reprinting of AD&D 1st ed is a clue of the scheme of the WotC. They probably have realized how many fan have lost with 3rd ed and with 4th ed.
Probably there will be more tryings to sell "nostalgic" products to check the markets of the grognards.
But this is what I think: Gygax is dead, Arneson is dead, what lost is lost and it will never come back. STOP. There are better games: C&C is one of these!

It's tough to improve on perfection ;) The Troll Lords should just keep doing what they do so well already. If they do, I'll keep coming back for more.
