Anyone running any games on G+ Hangout? If so, your thoughts?

That would be an interesting idea -- as expressed by ol' Grandpa here, who hasn't quite grasped Google Hangout yet.

I've played one session on it, and I have another this evening. I thought it might be good for some of the folks here to play some C&C on.

What time and how does one sign up? If I'm not in the middle of a seizure, I'd like to attempt this Google+ alchemy stuff. :?

I'm a player in someone else's game tonight (not C&C). I'd like to see about playing or running a session one night with the C&C folks, though. This weekend is out due to deadlines.

There are hardly any times in which I'm free - or even relatively inexpensive. (I thought when I retired, I would have MORE spare time!!) Sundays are our busiest days. Monday nights are Family Home Evening. Friday nights are date night with my sweetie. And we're frequently called to baby-sit three of the grandkids so one of our daughters and her husband can have a date night.

So I put in my vote for Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. Or most mornings or early afternoons on weekdays. (Yeah, like anyone games during the daytime!)

Man, I'm such a killjoy in my old age! Now I have to go yell at some kids to get off my lawn!

When I first heard about Google Hangouts when Google+ was first set up, I thought this would be an awesome way to do the online game thing.

Oddly I signed up to Google+ and I never got around to taking advantage of it.

Maybe we can get a dedicated hangout for Society chats (since NING is the DEVIL!)

I'm on Google+ a lot. I use it really only for communicating with gaming folks. It's freakin' great. Sort of like a world-wide message board. I just circles Christina. Here is my profile if any of you C&Cers want to circle me: link

Several OSR folks play D&D on G+ all the time via ConstantCon: link. I have not yet given it a spin, but I do see people posting "Looking for players" and "playing in 30 minutes!" kind of posts regularly.

I agree that Ning is the devil, but you lose me where you think G+ is LESS evil.

Heh... Never said that G+ wasn't evil. That said, I think it's a given that it would work better here. ;)

I actually like the Ning service, but Google+ is pretty awesome. Not sure how you'd have a central place for downloads and things though.

Anyhow, I have a Castles & Crusades Society circle at G+. I you add me, try to let me know that you're a C&Cer.

I'm pretty sure I've already got you Frost but I do need to 'expand' my gaming circle so-to-speak. I have nothing against NING for hosting files and such but it's lousy for chat and largely the reason why I don't bother showing up on Fridays like I used to back in the day when I was a regular in chat (pre-Ning).

I miss *zilla

A good alternative to google hang outs for online gaming is www.infrno.net. I have started running a game of c&c there after looking at using hang outs.Infrno has Web cams like hangouts a good whiteboard and a lot more games going on 24/7.

Any one fancy playing 8 pm on a Thursday GMT give me a pm

Falafel, The reason Google+ is the thing... It has about 700ish gamers all sharing a stream to set games up.
Untill any alternative has that built in, it is not an alternative.

If somone is in Google+ and needs contacts just ask i got near 600 i can share.

Frost , most are sharing gamer stuff, characters etc with google docs.

can I ask a terribly basic/stupid question? It appears that since I have a google account, I can (and did) sign up for google+. But what it looks like to me is basically another facebook social-networking thingie. how do you get it to do video streaming or whatever it is that allows interactive gaming? is there a separate download or plug-in or something?
thanks for any gentle hints ...

On the right side of the stream, there is a button labled "Start a hang out"

That creates the video chat session.

It is basicly a face book. The build in video chat is why it has been embraced by the gaming community.

That, and there are no native games on G+ so you're not being bombarded by Zynga.

That's something I don't get... what use is it to see peoples faces when you play? I could see pointing a webcam at a game map, but the resolution is usually not very good.

I'd recommend checking out www.tabletopforge.com. Covers basic map and dice functions.

Having played quite a bit on G+ now i can add the following thoughts.

Seeing people is a HUGE bonus. I am getting to know about 10 or so regular gamers.
Facial expressions add more then you might think to a game.

Maps... use any program you want to make a map or graphic...there is a button in the hangout that lets you post your screen so others can see your map instead of the camera, it works wonders for mapping i just use paint.

dice, as far as i have seen people just roll dice and voice the results. i havent seen any evidence of cheating. fumbles happen as often as crits...and any gamer who pays attention can tell when someone is fudging dice rolls.

All i can say is you should try it a few times.

I run a Tuesday night C&C game roughly weekly from 7:30 pm cst till ??? usualy 10ish....That is if we can get enough to play.

Try it ,you might like it.
