Do you use a 'skill system?'

Post by vivsavage »

The default C&C doesn't have a traditional skill system, but uses the SEIGE mechanic of prime attributes. The CKG and Gygax's Yggsburgh book contain optional skill systems. Do you use either? Have you created one of your own? Or do you stick with the standard system of primes and eschew a traditional skill system?

W00T, a Poll!

Other: I have used a few different skill systems, but mostly base SIEGE with BTN=18 and +6 on the roll for primes. I have also plugged in a houseruled system and even tried using the 3rd ed skill system, but that was not effective in conjunction with C&C for our group.

I use a more skill based game and have based my skill system off of a combination of 2E proficiencies and 3E skills. Of course I use the uber awesome SIEGE mechanic to determine success or failure. I also use a secondary skill system in conjunction with this method. So characters are pretty skilled when compared to general C&C PCs.

I voted for option one, but I use the AD&D Secondary Skills as well. But I do so in a very vague way. Basically, if your secondary skill somehow eems to warrant a bonus on the SIEGE check, I will likely give you one. I will do this as well if the player has made up a background that warrants a bonus or, if they BS up a background right on the spot. Basically, if the player works to prove the bonus, I will likely give them one. I find this encourages them to flush out their characters.

Only insomuch that the class and racial abilities are "skills."

Everything else is a matter of "would it make sense for you to know this" sort of thing.

So option 9. No.
