Good wandering monster charts? And a question...
Good wandering monster charts? And a question...
Looking for a solid source of wandering monster charts for all levels and environs. Any old school sources will do.
Also, do you prefer the 1d20 method of making charts of the d% method? Or both for different situations?

Engineering Dungeons has some WM tables I've used in the past that are old-school in their feel. They work nicely.
Re: Good wandering monster charts? And a question...
I'd like to pick that up soon, but am unfortunately not in a place to be buying gaming aids at the moment : )
Was hoping for some online sources.

Kellri's Encounter Reference is pretty great: http://kellri.truculent.org/CDD%234%20-%20ENCOUNTERS%20Reference.pdf

I rewrote the tables for the CKG as well.

IIRC the last few issues of the Ouillete has a progressive series of wandering monster tables:

Related question, does the Crusader Mag have any issues that have wandering monster tables?
Re: Good wandering monster charts? And a question...
I do not recall submitting the tables from Engineering Dungeons for the sample that was placed in The Crusader, but I could be mistaken. Other than that possibility, I would have to say 'no' unless they are specific to an adventure contained and not "universal."

If I needed chances <5%, then % is used over D20...Ozreth wrote: Also, do you prefer the 1d20 method of making charts of the d% method? Or both for different situations?

For my monster encounter charts in my sandbox game I use 1d8+1d12 instead of d20 or %. It's a quick and dirty way of giving yourself an actual curve. Just put the rarer critters on the high and low ends of the scale and it works out pretty well.
I really ought to get around to posting my encounter tables at some point.

When I was skimming through the threads, I swear I saw:
"God wandering monster charts"
I pity the party that randomly encounters gods like this.
