Does Combat Marauder Apply to Ranged Attacks?
Does Combat Marauder Apply to Ranged Attacks?
Does the damage bonus from the Ranger class ability Combat Marauder also apply to ranged attacks?

I do not allow it my game, there are others on here that make the ranger divide the damage among the targets.

What BD said, but I can understand where Lobo is coming from. I allow it, per the rules.

I limit it to range. Target no further than 20' away. Beyond that one can't be accurate enough to hit a precise location, which it required to inflict the extraordinary damage. Similar to the limitations (reasoning also) placed on a rogue's ranged Sneak Attack.Lobo316 wrote:I do not allow it my game, there are others on here that make the ranger divide the damage among the targets.

You know, I kinda like that. I have to admit, I've been reconsidering that rule to go ahead and allow it. I will say this, in cased where a rangers may get mulitple attacks in a round, I only allow them to apply that bonus damage to the first/primary target.Arduin wrote:I limit it to range. Sounds reasonable. They get one carefully aimed shot/round.

Yeah, that makes sense. I don't know when they'd get more than one attack per round, though. Haste? Either way, that's sound reasoning.Arduin wrote:Lobo316 wrote: I will say this, in cased where a rangers may get mulitple attacks in a round, I only allow them to apply that bonus damage to the first/primary target.

Along those lines, it is interesting that the Trolls don't allow Fighters supporting to gain extra attack or combat dominance and Rangers supporting to gain combat marauder under class-and-a-half options. So, either way (fighter-ranger or ranger-fighter), they're not getting multiple attacks with combat marauder.

For my part, I'm talking about when your are using rules that allow, example, rangers to take mulitple shots with thier bow. Each shot is at a penalty. Or if your are in melee and dual wielding.Lord Dynel wrote:Yeah, that makes sense. I don't know when they'd get more than one attack per round, though. Haste? I think actually, I've loosened up on this rule since this thread starting. I'm not going to worry so much about applying that bonus damage or not. It's policed by the negative mods for multi-firing or dual wielding. One thing I am going to impliment though, for ranged attacks to get the maurader damager, follow the same restrictions on range as the rogues sneak attack.
