The Walking Dead
The Walking Dead
Is everyone else addicted to this show as much as me? I am so hyped yet sad for sundays show. Hyped for zombie herd attacking the farm and sad since its the season finale. I think it has surpassed Fringe as the best show on TV.

Re: The Walking Dead
Never read the comic, it was based on. But, I really like it to. I certainly try to watch every episode, but my tv viewing habits suck.
Personally I think that; Game of Thrones, Mad Men and Breaking Bad are better shows but my love for zombie apocalypse makes this show one I try to catch whenever I can.
The biggest surprise, to me, is the production value. Everything is so well done, from top to bottom, that it is just a tad under good movies and is well over bad movies.
Even the "love" interest(s) are well done and don't want to make you puke or seem a tad off, like it was shoe-horned in just to have a love interest.
There is even a part where a zombie is loved!

I am completely addicted to the show, and yes, season finale already makes me cry... I often have trouble catching the show on Sunday nights, but thankfully, I can watch it OnDemand with my cable company! (About the only thing I like about my cable company.)
I have not read the comics, have been avoiding that to not hit spoilers, but I don't know if I can hold out much longer...
Purchased the first season on DVD, and will get the second when it is out, then have a couple of marathon sessions to watch it all before the next season opener.

Good show. It prompted some of my coworkers to badger me into running a zombie campaign with Savage Worlds.
Re: The Walking Dead
I watched the first three or four episodes of the first season, got bored of it, and decided to not waste my time. The effects are good and that is it.

I'm a fan, for sure. The first season was tremendous. The second season started a little slow, but since the mini-break, it's been pretty damn good. Can't wait for the finale!

Love the show, it's fantastic . . . in a crazy, silly way.
Some of the DFer's are a bit critical and rightly so (there is an ongoing thread there) ~ with regard to some things like the characters do stuff that most of us wouldn't do (think - mad slasher movies, where the victims don't turn on the lights or call the cops, but wander around the house/attic/basement with a flashlight that doesn't work well or some such).
I actually like when the characters do stupid stuff (it's funny as hell).
I also like the survivalist spin, i.e. what would you do in a critical situation (when society breaks down - cause I don't believe in the zombie apocalypse [sorry Ancalagon!]
I think the acting is quite good, mebbe excellent at times!
Sir Ironside, you can catch missed episodes at other times on AMC (I miss the show a lot cause I'm gaming or working on Sunday nights.

Re: The Walking Dead
Its trite, cliche boring and full of people who are just plain idiots. I find myself rooting for the zombies to finish the job if these are examples of the 'survivors' of such an event. Couldn't get past season one, it was torture enough.

That'd be cool if I dIdn't live in Canada. Unless AMC is in Canada then I am blissfully unaware and if it does, I don't have cable. And, it still doesn't answer the problem that I don't partition time for any tv show. Boxed sets work better for me as I can chose when to watch it.Rhuvein wrote:Sir Ironside, you can catch missed episodes at other times on AMC (I miss the show a lot cause I'm gaming or working on Sunday nights.

Re: The Walking Dead
My cable company has been furtively raising their internet/cable fees to the point of ridiculousness!!
Last month I downgraded the cable speed to save $20 per month. But, the dish network has been sending out ads/info and their fees are WAY less!
I don't watch much TV, but my wife does and so I will have to analyze the costs vs. channels array to see if I can do the dish.
But, I will agree that WD is great, but not worth a monthly cable bill!

Re: The Walking Dead
I watch this show, and love this show. The long format (TV series) of a zombie apocolypse was the perfect way to go. However, while I do like where the show is going in the 2nd half of this sophmore season, I do grow a bit tired of the characters. I think the writing may be locked down by the desire to stick close to the source material in the comics. Though, as I understand it, some of the The Walking Dead TV program is starting to deviate from the comics, but in a good way.
SPOILER ALERT!

.
.
With the previous few episodes killing off main characters left and right, I'm finding my attraction to this show growing and looking forward to this Sunday's season finale. Next season (Oct 2012) will be extended to 16 epsiodes (that's probably a good sign), with a significant budget increase.

Oh by the way, to answer the original intent of the thread, I like the show, but my wife LOVES it! That being said, I like some others here have limited time to watch TV so half the time my wife records it, watches it then deletes the show before I get to watch it. Because of that, ever time I get a chance to watch it with her, she has to catch me up on what happened over the last few shows she accidentally deleted.

My understanding is that you buy/rent the DVR and you still need cable, which I can't justify the cost for how little I watch t.v. (Buying cable for maybe 3 or 4 shows that I try to catch.)Arduin wrote:Sir Ironside wrote:Like I said I don't have cable and have zero interest in getting it. They had a "making of" episode. I remember them saying what a huge budget The Walking Dead had. I guess they were hedging their bets. If no one watched then the lower episodes meant, not losing as much money. If there was a good audience numbers then, hopefully, season two will have more episodes.
Pure speculation on my part.
Game of Thrones had only 10 episodes. Looks like the second season has only 10 to. I wish they'd bump it up (To at least 12) as they seem to be doing one season equals one book.

I like the show, and must say its diverted from the comic series from the second episode. Which I dont' mind, so long as its done in an interesting manner. This second season started slow but got pretty good by the end. I'm looking forward to season 3, and its tempting me to dust off my zombie siege style game to run.
