I already know what my character will be...

Post by treant_on_fire »

I'm trying to convince one of my friends to DM us a Castles & Crusades game because I want to play it, as a PC! (Been DMing a lot lately...)

I'll make my character a Class and a Half Illusionist (principle) / Rogue (support).

I want to make him the very tricky sort, he'll use illusions and back-stabbings a lot (sometimes in combination). Human and Chaotic Good.

Just wanted to share! :p

Ooh! Such a potent and fun combination of classes. All the best!

I figure story-wise it'll be an extremely fun mix, kind of the perfect trickster character.

Of course he'll be stuck with d4 HD for his HP and he'll level up at a snail's pace, so he'll have to act smart! I do agree that it has the potential to be a potent mix, but he'll have to survive a lot of adventures before it starts to pay off... :p

His Primes will be Intelligence, Charisma and Dexterity.

INT, CHA, DEX... that is a lot of awesome. Sure, your character will advance slow - but who cares! The fun you are going to have, especially when in the city, is going to be worth it.

One of the cats in my game played a class and a half rogue/illusionist and it was a nice class combo. You are going to like the illusionist/rogue as well I think; aside from the slow advancement!

This is definitely one of the more potent class combo's used.

Yeah, as others have said, it sounds fun. Hopefully, if the DM believes in illusions (pun intended :P) and adjudicates them well, I'd say you're gonna be in for some fun times.

I chose Illusionist/Rogue because you have all Rogue abilities but one as you start out anyway, so might as well put the progression focus on the spellcasting class. Then again I guess there is something to be said about quicker leveling up, as the Rogue/Illusionist would require less XP. Or if you know for sure that you'll encounter lots of hard traps, maybe you do want the better roll on the Rogue abilities, so I'm not saying doing it vice-versa is the wrong choice or anything.

Hope you do a lot of city-based adventuring. If you find yourself in the wild deep, good luck having a lot of practice with those abilities. Except for hide, move silently, and maybe a backstab or three.

While that was the idea, I don't think he'll be completely useless outside a city...

First of all, he'll be a Rogue too after all, so there's this whole trap disarming thing he will be able to do. And backstab like you said.

And Illusionists do have a few useful combat spells and even healing...
