Lamentations of the Flame Princess

Has anyone tried this one yet? How does it differ from other D&D games?

I love the way this game looks. The layout, the presentation, the character sheet, all great. Never played it though, but it pretty much is D&D I would say.

Well, from what I could read the differences are...

- Less HP all around (so a more deadly game)

- Only the Fighter gets better at hitting things.

- You get XP more for the treasure you find than for the monsters you kill.

- No traditional orcs, kobolds, etc. The monsters are created by the GM using a system and tend to be unique.

- Less Tolkien, more Robert E. Howard, H.P Lovecraft, etc.

I own the Grindhouse Edition and I'm itching to play it. Treant_on_fire pretty much summed up the difference between LotFP and OD&D. One thing that can't be overstated, though, is the game's emphasis on "the Weird." Like Treant said, "Less Tolkien, more Robert E. Howard, H.P Lovecraft, etc." I'd say more Lovecraft in a fantasy (medieval) setting than anything. The boxed set is amazing - I highly recommend it.

What I don't get is why they left Elves, Dwarfs (as they are spelled in the game) and Halflings in there if they don't want any other humanoid races and prefer unique monsters! Not that their presence bothers me and I kind of like their spin on them (holy water hurts elves!) but you know, seems counter-intuitive!

As a side-note, I got the free no-art pdf of the rules. I intend to get the real thing soon.
