This Sucks

So I got a rejection letter from my disability hearing this past week. I talked to my lawyer and he gave me some options all of which have major drawbacks. On top of that I went to my doctor yesterday and got to spend the appointment being raked over the coals by my wife and found out that I have slipped into a major depressive episode. I looked at job possibilities and have not found much that I could do.

Any prayers, support, dirty limericks or funny pics would be appreciated now. Sorry to dump but I need to vent.

Our prayers are with you, Julian, and I can realllllly identify. (i.e. - I'm disabled past the point of being able to work, transport myself, or sitting up for more than about 70 minutes. And my wife has been out of work for the past three months.)

Cherie (Wife, Level 38; Healthcare Financial Consultant, Level 12) asks me to assure you that almost every disability hearing gets shot down on its first request. (Rejections are in the 99.99% levels.) It's only on the third or more try that the majority of them get through.

So please - don't give up just yet.

And keep hanging in there. It took seven years before Cherie really began recovering from PTSD, and I'm still struggling with depression. Nice meds though. Really good doctors recently, have made a difference.

There is light at the end of this tunnel.

Thanks guys. It's been a rough couple weeks and I just needed to get some things off my chest. I also vented in more detail on my blog and I do feel a bit better. I have realized that this is not about making a 'good' decision but making the decision good. Luckily this hobby and community is a place that I can go to get my mind off things and destress a bit.

Man, my prayers go out for you. I know your pain with the disability stuff. I am in big limbo with the VA on the same kind of stuff ... and a cousin of mine just finished fighting the same fight about his back with OK's disability board, so I know how much it can suck having to have the law dogs fight that fight!

Also, though I hate to admit it, I think I'm slowly getting pulled into the depression pool ... I'd hoped it would be better after I left the AF and the deployments, but it is slowly getting worse even after being out for a year. With that, I may be in the shallow end of the pool, so I'll pray big time for you on the major depressive episode.

The one good thing for me is God moving doors for me to get the perfect job for me. With that I know how much it helps to have His help and hope he opens the right doors for you!

That just reminded me of having one of my cadets doing some Eng lit work and having to learn about poetry, including limericks. He asked for examples, Epic sonnet etc etc were easy enough, but have you ever tried to think up a non dirty limerick ????

Though one should never ascribe Evil that which is more explainable as Stupidity, sometimes you have to wonder....

Since these decisions are made by government bureaucrats, a question arises as to whether bureaucrats, politicians, stupidity, and Evil are one and the same. Gee, these are the people who will now have control of all our healthcare now.

As Mark Twain said, "Suppose you're a member of Congress. Now suppose you're an idiot. But I repeat myself..."

Prayers going out for you JG. Know a few guys going through the process, not an easy road, especially if they didn't get it documented while they were serving. Just keep at it, when it goes through, you'll be able to better help those who come after you navigate the system.

Luker, I feel for you and prayers going out as well. A lot of guys I know get that same feeling after the 6 month to a year mark when retiring or leaving service. It's that since of connectedness. Lot's of good organizations to link into to reconnect. We've got a Special Forces association that tries to meet when we drill, which is cool. Military Ministries is another good organziation to help connect as well.

YoYo, same for you prayers going up. Just curious did your wife serve or was it connected to another issue?

Metal, she was working in a civilian doctrs' office/clinic whenher co-worker Tracy fell off her chair into Cherie's lap - and died. Tracy was, IIRC, the first death from phen-phen recorded. Cherie insisted she didn't need couseling or therapy - and completely broke.down one year later.

It took me almost two years to get my disability. Virtually everyone get denied on the first go around. My thoughts are with it it can be quite maddening.

I talked to my lawyer today and decided that I would appeal the decision. He said he would start working on the the appeal and I am now waiting for what comes next. I also had a good weekend spending time with the family and we went to the local Ren Faire and had a great time there. The nice part to that was when we were recognized by the performers as coming since the beginning of that particular event.

Today I am going to be working on some writing projects and a few things I have set off to the side. If nothing else returning to a sense of normalcy will help stave off the effects of the mood downturn.
