So after a long hiatus, I am thinking of running C&C again (as other than a couple of neat new versions of D&D I have seen, Radiance and Heroes Against Darkness) I am not liking D&D Next at all.
So to do so, I need to have my special class involved, the Kalinites.
The Kalinites
After the Red Death wiped out 75% of the population of the West, a woman named Kalin was seen wandering with a big book, writing down the names, ages and locations of everyone she met. Within time her legend grew and soon others were seen doing the same thing. Then others were writing down other things, like gave markers, livestock totals, recipes, etc...
This is the origins of the Kalinites, a society dedicated to the neutral observance of the West as it has grown out of the Red Death for the past 5 centuries.
12 Facts about the Kalinites
1 - All members are orphans with no family ties, brought in as children of no more than 3 years of age. This prevents of corruption of the knowledge or the order. As they maintain the noble birth records it would be nigh impossible to infiltrate the order.
2 - Kalinites enjoy neutrality within the West and specifically within the political boundaries of the Regency. All Kalinites must take an oath of neutrality. This neutrality is so well respected that opposing forces have been known to have Kalinites on both sides of the conflict recording, aiding with injured and cooking.
3 - Male or female, matters not, Kalinites are equal in all ways.
4 - Kalinites write in a particular script that is nigh undecipherable except by those who have been trained in it. No non-Kalinite has been trained in it. Further more, Kalinites value linguistics with an almost religious intensity and are known to speak many or be able to learn new ones quickly.
5 - Kalinites serve as scribes for the business, nobility and other venues of the West. As such they maintain the most accurate and complete records in the West.
6 - Kalinites also transport news and messages, a bit like an mail service. One Kalinite who is heading towards a way station is obligated to take any recordings that another Kalinite heading a different way asks them to. This creates a fast and reliable network.
7 - Kalinites will not learn to spell cast as they see it as corruption, but they can read and write magic, make scrolls and scroll cast as a mage of lower level (2 lower) than themselves.
8 - Kalinites have developed a martial art based on scrolls from the East that have made their way home. This is a very defensive and non-aggressive martial art, much like Akido.
9 - Kalinites are pacifists and will only use a staff for a weapon. They may not wear armour. They are great healers, studying the non-magical version of this science to an almost magical level.
10 - Once their training is complete, young Kalinites must decide if they are to be scribes, clerks or pilgrims. Scribes work day and night to copy documents that pass through Kalinite hands. Clerks maintain the day-to-day needs of the order and pilgrims wander the lands, recording what they see. Each Kalinite has a different focus. One may be studying the flora of a particular area, another the fauna and another still the day's news and events.
11 - The Kalinites are known to have something called "The Red Scrolls". These are the most important and secret documents of the West and no one outside of a select few known the contents of any Red Scroll. Speculation and theories abound though.
12 - The Elves of the Silverwood think that the Kalinite order is pretty much the only thing of substance and importance that the humans have ever done and as such have given one of their hidden cities over to the Kalinites to use as a library. High in the mountains it is known as Lorerill and a group of elven defenders has volunteered to live there and protect it.
So anyone want to help me build a class out of this?
Thanks in advance!
