Poll.... Next Conversion?

Post by serleran »

If anyone is interested in the serleran doing another conversion to C&C from some other game, here's the place to throw out your suggestions. So far the tied competitors are:

Warhammer Fantasy RPG

Palladium Fantasy

I'll entertain anything else, if I have the game system to do it.

Or, if people are sick of conversions that's cool as well.

That is a tough one, since I enjoy both. I love the Paladium setting more, so I give it my vote.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

I agree with Tree. The Palladium fantasy setting is extremely cool. It gets my vote.

My vote is a resounding call for Palladium Fantasy

Especially the racial classes and archer class! that will save me a ton of work on my home brew ;)

That said, Thank you for all the hard work on these conversions :!: :!:

I will have to go with Warhammer. I love the detail in that game.

I'd be down with seeing a conversion of Palladium Fantasy, though really I'd like to see a C&C RIFTS conversion, especially now that the CKG is out with various tech levels of fire arms and we have a some sci-fit with StarSEIGE and lots of good stuff in Amazing Adventures - and of course how Mega-Damage would be handled.

One thing I always liked about Palladium though was the Parry roles, wonder how that might fit into a C&C thing. Perhaps offered to everyone just as a dex check. Or perhaps some other way like another ability type roll.

Palladium still gets my vote, but OE is a very close second! Especially after reading Tree's L5R posts!!!

Rifts is right out. Not self-contained. Well, I guess the underlying "engine" is, but that's just an expansion from Palladium Fantasy as I recall...

I don't have Warhammer 40K. Or Traveller. Not much into sci-fi games.

Oh, and since no one has thrown out any other game ideas to convert, I will. :)

Oh, yeah! Shadowrun! Why didn't I think of that?! Would love to see a conversion of that.

I imagine you will remember I love Synnibar, and it is definitely more RIFTS than RIFTS. I enjoyed playing and running it much more than RIFTS. So yeah, if you convert Synnibar, or Shadowrun, or Warhammer, or Paladium Fantasy, its not like I "lose" since I like all of them.

I already converted Traveller, at least the engine, to the SIEGE engine. I left character generation the way it is. Just start with 8 on 2d6 being equal to 12 on the D20. Keep skills 1 for 1, and convert most other modifiers by increasing their value by 1, except keep most +1 at +1. It worked pretty good. I'd have to run a few more adventures to get the bugs worked out, but it worked smoothly enough the one time I ran Traveller C&C.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

I'm not sure what you would be trying to convert from Palladium fantasy? I guess you could switch all of the magic over to spell points, add psionics, and the like. But Palladium Fantasy essentially has, 10 different types of fighters. Sure, the warlock, diaboloist, summoner, and priest are somewhat unique, but they are essentially the same D&D/C&C tropes. I could see converting a class or three, but not sure how valid converting over every class to C&C would be other than the truely unique. I guess some of the races would be cool like Wolfen, Goblin, Troll, etc.

But if I had to vote, I'd say of all of those mentioned, SHADOWRUN. As somebody who generally hates the game mechanics of Shadowrun, a full-on conversion of that to C&C is not only challanging, but would be in high demand for, well, probably ever!

I think the Siege Engine can do the Shadowrun better. Particularly if the conversion is CLASSLESS. yeah, that's what daddy likes.

But ultimately, if you are going to do the work, do what you would find the most interesting. The Arduin stuff is going to last a long time in this community (and others) too I think.

It has been a long time since I opened a Palladium Fantasy book (and right now, actually, I cannot find it on my shelf, but it's there somewhere, hiding) and the version I would do is the 1st edition, not the 2nd. As I recall the combat system, spells, skills, and psionics are the fundamental things for that conversion. I've successfully translated many Palladium things to other games (AD&D2e, d20, C&C, and so forth) and have even posted some of it it here (unarmed combat maneuvers inspired by Ninjas and Superspies, for example) so it is doable but also mostly grunt work... Warhammer and the others are more involved (and therefore slower) because they require actually dissecting methods and making them "fair."

Yeah, I could convert a lot of Paladium Fantasy "on the fly", but a full conversion would be nice, especially of creatures, player races, and spells we don't already have in C&C, such as Wolfen, Coyle, Pixies, Changelings, and as for creatures, the first I would convert is the Balrog and the Old Ones.

I must be a rube, yet again another setting I have never heard about but sounds interesting.

I like the "more rifts than rifts". I loved the idea of the game and the setting, but got REAL tired of all the endless books etc etc etc

However, and as others said

L5R would be great. I'm hoping some day the Trolls do an OA setting.

If you have the D20 Rokugan materials it is just as easy to convert it to C&C as any other D20 material is. Which means it is very easy. Now to have a C&C game be as good as their D10 pool system? THAT would be a challenge.

Dice pools get converted the same way anything else does... on probabilities. But I don't have L5R so that's not happening. I also see no need to convert OA because it uses AD&D.
