Issues with using numbers in the forums

Post by koralas »

Ok, since I upgraded to Windows 8 last night, I cannot use the numbers at the top of the keyboard, if I try to use them, they just repeat the last keystroke that was typed. I can use the numeric keypad just fine. I have tried both Internet Explorer and Firefox, both show the same behavior. I have not seen this with other applications, nor can I duplicate it in other forums, though to be fair, I have only tried Dragonsfoot, but unless I am mistaken, they are using the same forum application.

Anyone else experiencing this?

FYI - I can't reproduce this under Firefox, from Windows 7 or GNU/Linux. Forums seem fine to me.

I think you have your answer! ;)

[I've had mucho trouble upgrading winblows OSs and stopped doing so years ago. Instead I just buy a box with the new system and take it from there.]

Hope you can it get 'er fixed!

It would be much cheaper to switch to GNU/Linux. :D http://goodbye-microsoft.com/

1234567890 (typed from top of keyboard)

Typing from Windows 8.

Tried both the RT version of IE and the normal one. Seem to work fine; sorry.

Time = $. So depending on what your time is worth, it might be far more expensive too...

Yeah I usually do full rebuilds instead of upgrades, and may still yet on this box. Just noticed it yesterday, and didn't have much time to troubleshoot yet.

I have a few Linux boxes, Fedora, Ubuntu, and SUSE, just wanted Windows 8 start playing with before friends/family start getting theirs, so this will be a good step to troubleshooting. Not sure when/if work will switch, glad I'm not in PC support anymore. ;)

Got it, it was Constant Guard and Norton. Uninstalled both and reinstalled Norton (Constant Guard does not support Win 8) and all is well.

More than likely it was the "GuardedID" portion of Constant Guard which is a keyboard encryption application that has real issues with anything online, from games to apps, to browsers. It pretty much blows monkey feats with three hands and a wrench... and it comes with some rather standard security suites (Comcast, for example, makes it part of its package.) Plus, it has self-healing, so even disabling it doesn't do nothing (most often) and it has to be actually uninstalled.

That was a "fun one" at my old job.
