Encumbrance (don't groan at *me*, young man!)

Post by scp »

Preface: I am using the 4th printing rules, and I know the 5th printing has updated encumbrance rules, but I don't have those :)

I know encumbrance has been a much debated topic, and a search of the forum brings up some interesting conversations -- and I know the Trolls said "Just use some common sense" if you wanted -- but simply put: I think the D20 SRD encumbrance rules are just about as "common sense" as it gets for a game with C&C-like mechanics. So, I am about to start a game and we will be using the D20 SRD "Carrying Capacity" rules as the basis for our "common sense" (I am not going to be a rules lawyer or an accountant -- I am just trying to give some guidelines to my group) -- I plan on giving people who have Strength or Constitution as a prime some slack to emulate to +2 ER. Is this a good thing, bad thing, am I going to break something, does anyone care about this? Let me know what you think.

The 5th printing does simplify it some, but it's still the EV system and if you aren't fond of it in the 4th printing, I doubt it'd sell you in the 5th.

So, yeah, d20's carrying capacity system would work fine. Were it me, I'd probably give those with Strength or Constitution prime an extra 20 pounds of carrying capacity. If they have both, then I'd allow for 50 extra pounds.

20lbs extra is exactly what I was thinking this morning while I rehashed it in my head. Thanks!
