A question about scrolls

Post by keith »

My party will be encountering a scroll and probably a spell book with a few spells.
The party is without a magic user.... Just a cleric, thief and fighter....
How should this be played?
Can any of them identify the spells? Can any use them?
Thanks ;)

(BTW Im using the C&C condensed rules right now, is some of this explained in the full rules?)

If the scrolls are clerical spells ones, the cleric can use them. Otherwise, they are useless & unreadable. They can try and sell them, if they realize what they have...

That's not exactly true, Arduin. No offense, sir. :)

A rogue may use this ability to decipher arcane script if a successful check is made at a penalty of -10. If successful he can read the spell but not cast the spell. This ability may not be used to decipher divine scrolls.
I'm making a base assumption that it is an arcane scroll you're referring to, since you have a cleric in your party and the scroll could be read.
