Creating a new character class - how to assign xp levels?

Post by Combat_Kyle »

I'm trying to create a new class for players in my homebrew world. My question for fellow Ck's out there: is there a good way to determine XP progression for leveling? Thanks!

If you had the AD&D 2nd Edition DMG you could convert that XP system for custom classes to C&C scale...

I look at the existing "core" classes and find one that is close to the class I'm creating. Then I adjust from that base accordingly as related to the class abilities and when they trigger.

I sometimes will use my deconstruction method. Most times, though, I just decide what seems appropriate based on how the classes already work. Slap some numbers down. Run it. See if it needs tweakage.

Thanks for the help. I picked the class more similar and added XP for levels where new abilities were gained.

On occasion, I'll take two XP charts and average them, if a new class seems to be "in between" the existing ones in terms of power.
