MONSTROSITIES!

Post by Omote »

Frog God Games recently released there new monster book, Monstrosities. At first I wasn't all that excited about it. I thought it was essentially going to be a rehash of their stuff from the Tome of Horrors Complete book -- this is not the case. Those there is some overlap, Monstrosities has 187 brand new baddies and 555 pages! It's a prety dam cool monster book, even for C&C. I thought I had enough monster books to last a life time. With the Tome of Horrors Complete and now Monstrosities, I do now.

Just a heads up on a cool monster book for classic-style gaming.

Yep, got the PDF for it weeks ago. The physical copy should be arriving in my mail box in the next week.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

TB, I got my copy yesterday in the mail. I bet you yours will be there sooner than you think.

I certainly will not complain. Besides, with me living in the middle of no where, I am used to getting my stuff slower than other gamers. For example, you live in Ohio, I live in AZ, which is MUCH closer to Washington state, yet you still got yours before I did, and both of ours were probably taken to the post office at the same time.

Yeah, I forgot to think about your living situation TB. It will probably take a few extra days to deliver your package, and the post-office is not running as efficnently as it used to (in relation to delivery time, that is). I do appologize if I got your hopes up prematurely. Regardless, I think you are going to like the book when it comes in. I was certainly was surprised.

At this point I'm not sure I will need another monster book, ever.

Between ToHC and this? No. Realistically we will never need to buy more monster books, but we will.

Swords and Wizardry. So very easy to use for C&C.

And mine arrived today! Whoot!

I knew it!

BTW, this books is written for the Swords & Wizardy game, and pretty much original Dungeons & Dragons. However, it's very easy to convert to any classic game syetem. I think they will have a version for Pathfinder too eventually. But right now, it's all good for S&W (and C&C too!).

Yeah, with how many original monsters they have in this (180+), I guess it may be worth converting to Pathfinder (Monstrosities). At least a version with just the original monsters, anyways. All the repeat would probably piss off most gamers.

I am not clear on everything just yet, but what I am clear on are the tables that break all the monsters down by a challenge level and then tables that do it by terrain. I still have to do more reading to be clear about everything else.

My hardcover arrived yesterday and, after unpacking it, I had to simply stand there and admire it (all 555 pages of it). What a wondrous creation. Every monster comes with a "sample encounter," which is great for idea-seeding or sandbox play. Well done (again) Frog God!

Oh, and those tables Tree was talking about: Monsters by challenge level, by terrain, and sample random lists, as well as a new monster creation section.
