Godentag... G'day!
Over the years, the discussion of the godentag weapon has come up many times on these forums. Most say something like, "WTF is that?" In our C&C campaign, the godentag is referred to as the "table leg with spikes" and it is considered a peasents weapon.
I thank my buddy SME for finding this video of the godentag.

Glad to see that it actually is a two handed weapon (which is also the case per my house rules). BTB it's the most overpowered one-handed weapon available.
BTW: Does anyone know what a Sleeve Tangler is??

This is a sleeve tangler.

The idea is that you strike someone with it, someone wearing cloth or leather armor and then it "sticks" and you can pull and push them from a distance, damaging them and their armor the entire time and if mounted, unseat them from the horse. They then have to relinquish their weapon (or use their free hand) to try to free your weapon from their clothes/armor. Or, in the case of infantry, you can try to "stick" it to their weapon arm and shake their weapon free, at which point you draw your dagger or short sword and finish the job. I believe also it was used in the chase, to catch fleeing enemies by tangling them.

And here's an overview of the Battle of Courtrai. Seems like the godentag was more effective against cavalry than infantry.

In C&C terms, i'd probably make it heavier, two-handed, but cheaper. I'd probably also tweak the damage to 1d8+1.
But definitely nice to know what the thing looks like and seeing it in action.

Here's the link to the entire episode (well, part 1 to start, other parts are related links). Lots of interesting stuff.

Re: Godentag... G'day!
That is a unique, and yet, interesting weapon. It would be easier to make versus a sword. So peasants and outlying villages might use them. Hmm...

Interesting TV show and one that I hadn't seen before. Nice to see visual representations of some of the more obscure medieval weapons and how they were used.
