Attachment function

Post by Rigon »

After Traveller recommended putting some old Erde stuff up on the message boards via the attachment funtion, I went looking to see if I could figure out how. If you post using the standard post option (as opposed to the quick post option) you can add attachments. However, every time I try to upload an attachment, I get the following statement:

File extesion (PDF, DOC, etc) not permitted.

Any ideas?

Hurrmmmm.

I tried a word doc, a pdf and a txt file.
all get "the extension (x) is not allowed"

seems it works for jpgs... maybe it's only supposed to be for picture files?

Zip files work. However, I am inclined to think it is mainly for images. Text files may not be permitted due to server space issues. That or it was felt the feature wasn't necessary.

.txt files are generally many times smaller than image files...

Well, hopefully one of the Trolls will come along and let us know something about this.

You misunderstand me. I wasn't talking about .txt files, but text files. What is the difference? The latter encompasses PDF, DOC, DOCX, TXT, and any other format where words are the primary means of communication.

I understand. It still doesn't explain why no .txt files. Other types can be much larger as you point out.

Coupled with the lack of a good table insertion mechanism, this is my most hated thing about the forums. Its why I haven't bothered posting any house rules... I like my charts!

Use the Code block, it isn't a table, but it is a mono-spaced font.

Code: Select all

Level Experience
            Points
   1 0
   2 2500
   3 5000

I know... it doesn't work well for large sections or multiple columns.

Most other phpBB forums offer a [table] option. Or, I suppose HTML.
