The old Atari console was in my house hold too, but I was never that into them. I much preferred going outside, play football, go swimming, go fishing, etc... Heck, I spent so much time at the beach and in the water I don't even think of the Summers being hot when I was young. Just a lot of fun.
I spent a lot of time outside growing up, however growing up first outside of Seatle then moving to wisconsin there were a lot of days were going outside just made no sense at all to me lol. I will stay inside and play my games when its negative 20 before windsheild factored in, thank you midwest x.x

Only time I went outside in the winter is if there was plenty of snow with which to make snow balls and igloos! Otherwise I stayed inside and drank hot chocolate.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.
Sounds obvious to me! -Gm Michael

I cut my gaming teeth in the late '80s and early '90s. So for me, video games were a big influence on my style and they still are. I played most of the classic console RPG's and borrowed from them quite a bit. As far as the Final Fantasy series goes I began to loose interest at about IX and began switching over to American RPG's due to liking the storylines and staying closer to traditional fantasy. I will admit that I am playing FFXII and really liking it but see it as more of a Sword & Planet or Sci-Fi setting than I do fantasy.

AD&D per se is as dead a system as Latin is a language, while the C&C game has much the same spirit and nearly the same mechanics. --Gary Gygax 8/16/06

I know 7 and 8 had that feel too, however 8 is my favorite I loved the junction system and it felt like there was a real penalty to balance out the power of magic, plus it had the most badass spell known to the final Fantasy series, Aura. Your characters can now at full health use their limit breaks :D

The junction system as well as all the hidden extras was the biggest cool factor to 8. I also liked the card game and would find myself playing it for hours. I obviously borrowed Airships from the series and I am trying to find a way to work the idea of the Mist into my campaign. One thing about 12 that I like is how magic has different sub-sets like Green,Time and the traditional Black and White. That is something else I would like to do with my C&C game to give it more flavor.

I think you would thoroughly enjoy playing 5 then, the Job system is very similar to class system of C&C and D&D. Off the top of my head I remember these jobs: Knight, Theif, Monk, Ninja, Samurai, Beast tamer, White mage (healing magic and protection), black mage (elemental magic), red mage (buff spells like increasing stats), time mage (gravity and time spells, haste slow, demi), dragoon, bard, and many others

Edit: I still lose hours to the card game myself
