How closely does Yggsburgh mimic Greyhawk?
How closely does Yggsburgh mimic Greyhawk?
I know that Yggsburgh is based on Greyhawk, and that Castle Zagyg is analogous of Castle Greyhawk... but how closely do they align? How do you pronounce Yggsburgh anyways?

Yggsburgh and Greyhawk are not the same city. Gary Gygax confirmed this. I asked Gary the same pronunciation question. Like many of his answers, he stated it was either "Yiggs-burg" or "iggs-burg."
Also, Cenobrii is pronounced "sen-oh-bree-eye."

You can fit Yggsburgh into Greyhawk fairly painlessly. If you look at the map there is a spot by, I believe, the Ery and Neen rivers that work perfectly for the setting. However, you have to remember that it does not fit perfectly. Dunfalcon, which is the Yggsburgh Greyhawk, sets south of the city rather than north as it would be on the Greyhawk map. All you really need to do is flip directions to make this work. Also the political situation is different in the East Mark than it is in that area of Greyhawk.
One last thing, in the East Mark Gazetteer Gary specified that Yggsburgh exists on an different world than Oerth but it could be considered a parallel world to Oerth. Hope this helps.

I could swear I saw Gary post somewhere that it's pronounced "EGGS-burg."

There is a post on Dragonsfoot, in one of Gary's threads where he clarifies too. I remember reading it years ago. Heck, I may have even asked the question. I think for a while people were referring to it as Eggsburgh. How to pronounce the city's name did not seem important to the man.
