Went to a local Gaming Convention yesterday in Sierra Vista, AZ. It is the first for this particular convention, and I was surprised and pleased to see how many people did turn out to play RPG's, board games, and card games.
I got to see the 1940 version of Axis and Allies in action, with both map boards, I finally got to see an L5R card game in action, as well as demo's of a half dozen or so other games, Such as Dystopia, Flames of War, etc....
RPG wise it was disappointing for me, all anyone wanted to play was either Pathfinder or 4E D&D.
It was good vendor wise. Found a number of nice little deals. I was even able to buy a magnet pack for my Combat Pad I got from Paizo. It was on clearance for $4.00. Another vendor sold me 3 boxes of D10's that should have cost me $16.50 for an even $10. Not sure why he gave me the discount, aside from finding out he is also a big fan of the L5R RPG, which was why I was buying the dice, as part of an attempt to run an L5R game.
Comics was a great find for me. Some guy was selling a lot of Marvel hard cover Graphic Novel compilations for $3 or $5. When I bought a couple hundred dollars worth (retail, not at what he was charging) he gave me about $6 off, effectively giving a couple of them to me for free.
They had a Silent Auction in which I won two stained glass dragons, one of which is Smaug, for $35, total. My wife was very pleased with those when I showed them to her last night, when I got home.
In the Raffle I didn't win what I really wanted, but I still walked a way with 3 Marvel Hero Clix packs. So at least I won something for my money.
So my daughter and I had a good time, and I was assured that they would do the convention again next year, so I'll be there. Next time running scheduled games instead of trying to do it "pick up" style.
Oh, and admission was FREE. So another awesome aspect.

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.
