Demo time!

Post by Ancalagon »

I'm working with the local comics & games store to run a C&C demo at the end of July. The demo will be for six pre-gen PCs of 2nd level. I'm crafting the adventure now and including elements of horror to (hopefully) make it more memorable than simply kicking down doors and taking loot.

Here is my tentative publicity blurb:

Player Introduction:
You and your companions arrived in the coastal village of Saltmarsh and found its inhabitants in a state of worry. A few days ago a persistent fog enveloped the village and the surrounding region. Of greater concern to the villagers is one of their own, a young shepherd, has gone missing and is presumed lost in the fog. Will you and your companions brave the mysterious fog and return with the lost shepherd… or will you find more than you bargained for?

Sounds like a nice intro blurb, and I like the concept of adding extra horror to make the demo more memorable and less "generic dungeon crawl" in nature.

The big thing for me is to have some nice pregen sheets with all of the important info easy to find and the C&C logo on it somewhere. And in color, if possible. And maybe include some sort of picture of each character. I find that stuff like this helps folks realize they aren't playing Pathfinder. :-P

Excellente.

One question . . . will there be any zombies in this adventure? ;)

Hope it goes well!

The PC sheets will most definitely have the C&C logo on them. I'm not sure if I'll have pics of the PCs... but I will be using the CK Screens so the name of the game will be in front of the players at all times. 8-)

Dang, I'd sign up for that game. The blurb screams classic fantasy RP!

I have yet to create the pre-gens. I know they'll be 2nd level and will consist of a cleric, two fighters, a ranger, a rogue, and a wizard. I may create a bard as a reserve in case a PC bites the dust and the player wishes to continue. Demo games do not guarantee making it out alive.....

Sounds like good fun Ancalagon. One or two dying will just whet their appetite for a "rematch". I still remember my 1st D&D game. 3 out of 8 died. I was one of them. Just makes success that much sweeter.

Best of luck. I ran the free RPG day adventure for my FLGS this year and the reception was very encouraging. Lots of compliments on both the adventure (which I embellished a little) and appreciation for the speed and simplicity of the C&C rules.

I've had some thoughts about tweaking the hell out of the Free RPG Day adventure and running it at some point. More on that later, perhaps.

I had a good intro game with some newbies using B2 - Keep on Borderlands. A classic that keeps on giving.

Too true! I really, REALLY want to run this module again. Alas, my players have graduated from that kind of scenario and it's just not possible to run for my group.

Due to scheduling issues with the local comic & game store my demo will now be run on Sunday, Aug. 4th. I've already had 3 players give verbal commitments with at least 3 more potentials. 8-)

Finished the demo session a couple of hours ago. I had 7 players and an 8th one show up 10 minutes late after all seats were taken.

We played for 5 hours. The party consisted of 7 PCs, all 2nd level. There were 2 fighters, 1 ranger, 1 bard, 1 rogue, 1 cleric, and 1 wizard. The bard died after being swarmed by 3 ghouls and going down by paralyzation. He was more or less devoured after that. Two other PCs (a fighter and the cleric on 2 occasions) had turns of getting down to 1 hit point before the group prevailed. Lots of close calls and tension so pretty much a great intro to C&C for the players.
