Castles & Crusades and the Wilderlands

Post by Geoffrey McKinney »

I've been re-reading the excellent Wilderlands of High Fantasy boxed set (published by Necromancer Games). Though it was published for 3.5 edition D&D, the thing screams out for use with Castles & Crusades. Of course conversion is a snap, but still...

It is a fantasy of mine for the boxed set to be updated and published for Castles & Crusades. Have Peter Bradley re-draw in color all 18 maps in his awesomely beautiful style seen in his Southern Reaches map he did for James Mishler.

Then keep the boxed set in print and support it. Allow (and encourage!) others to write Wilderlands C&C stuff. Make it the standard, go-to setting for anything swords & sorcery.

That is one of my dreams. 8-)

Talk to the Bledsoe's. Their blessing is needed to make it happen.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

So, if Bob II and Bob III were willing, what are the chances that The Troll Lords would do it? C&C is not hard to stat for. With Peter's reimagining of the maps and re-do of the stats to include knights as a class in the authority figures and for TLG to canonize Amazon Warriors and Witches as classes, this would rock and roll.

There are a lot of people who would be very excited and would be there with cash in hand. Have the Troll Lords ever entertained such an idea?

I keep hearing rumors that the Bledsoe's were not happy with how the licensed Judge's Guild products were handled and they are not willing to license things out at this point. I have no way of knowing if this is true or not so take the above for what it's worth.

I have always thought that Judge's Guild and TLG would benefit from a licensing deal of some sort that would involve the JG library being produced for C&C.

AD&D per se is as dead a system as Latin is a language, while the C&C game has much the same spirit and nearly the same mechanics. --Gary Gygax 8/16/06

Agreed. The awesome NG Wilderlands Box set is so amazing, that it deserves to be reprinted ~ and shared once again with the world. Stat it up for C&C, well that plan is just grand. I fully support this dream.

And yes, Peter Bradley's map of the Southern Reaches was amazing.

There are some kind of licensing "dispute", but I think the biggest reason for how things are is that the Bledsoe's are trying to resurrect Judges Guild and try and recreate the old magic. I believe they have even released a project or two under their new name, but that is all I have sen in two to three years.

James Mishler took a crack on producing Wilderlands material for C&C.

Granted, it was his take on the setting, so it was the Wilderlands of High Adventure rather than High Fantasy, but it's awesome stuff and still available at DriveThruRPG: link

It is awesome stuff. Among the best stuff ever produced for the Wilderlands, along with Rob Conley's stuff.
