Animal Friendship idea

Post by quithanire2 »

The thread on Animal Friendship spell gave me some ideas. The next time one of my players uses this spell I am going to randomly generate traits for the animal. I have seen charts where you generate personality traits for horses and thought of this. You could get a wolf animal "friend" and role up traits that give hints on how to roleplay character/animal interaction. The wolf could be brave, loyal, cowardly, stupid (for a wolf) that would inform its willingness to acompany the Druid/caster into danger of its own volition and its likelyhood to continue to present itslef to danger. I have two boxer/american bulldog mixes. One barks at everyone but is a big chicken and would run at the first sign of danger, unless her sibling did not. Her sibling barks very little and his first instinct is to defend. We used to live in town and drug addicts chose to cut across our fenced yard. The female yipped and went to run away. The male however, hunkered down and went after them silently and the female followed. The addicts left the area fast. Anyway, a trait system may be a good way to handle this.

I've seen such a "trait list" somewhere before. Probably TLG's own book on Familiars and companions, which we will hopefully see the C&C rewrite of some time in our life times. Pretty sure Casey submitted the manuscript months ago.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.
Sounds obvious to me! -Gm Michael
