has this site been hijacked?

Post by capmarvel »

On different PC's I've tried the following:

Running Google Chrome, search for "Troll Lord Games".

The first hit looks like the legit "Troll Lord Games" (at www.trolllord.com). However, if you click on it, you go to some Euro Med site.

If I type "www.trolllord.com" in the URL bar, I do go to the real Troll Lord site (that's how I got here now).

Again this is on multiple machines, and one was a brand new Windows 7 install from manufactures disks.

Just wondering how wide-spread this is??

Just tried it, on Chrome, no problems. Not sure what's up - I hope you don't have anything weird happening on your computer ...

I have been having problems as well.
I cannot get to Troll Lord Games main page at all. It locks my browser up and eventually crashes it. I usually get a "not responding" error but once I got a "long script" error.
I had a post here somewhere that I was going to reference but now I can't find it. Anyhow I was able to get here to the forums and adjust my bookmarks and I just found out I could get to the store by substituting /forums/ with /store/ in the url bar so I guess I am ok.

That's probably just the horrible crushing waiting of the front page with it's fancy graphics and rotating back ground images. Any slightly older computer would grind to a halt when hitting such a page. I link to forums directly now also.

The problem is on Google's end, not TLG. Clicking on the TLG link via Google search takes you to the spam site. Typing the site address in directly will take you where you are supposed to go.

Solution: report this to Google.

GOOGLE has been hacked. Not the Trollord site.

Google per se hasn't been hacked. It's a redirect exploit via Chrome. I'm not sure the vector though.

I haven't experienced it on any other site but a quick search turns up that others have the trouble at other places too.

I just used the company's name rather than the product name.

Still.

I was wrong in that it's a redirect exploit. That doesn't look to be the case. In the search result, when using Chrome, check out the actual link for anything at the trolllord.com domain name. It's a big long URL encoded string vs the simple URL. I tested Safari and it works fine. Chrome also works fine via Yahoo and Bing.

Just a theory: I wonder if the Google spider indexed something that used to be on the TLG site and that's only coming back for Chrome. If this is the case then a reindex should clear things up.

UPDATE:

I cleared Chrome's cache from the beginning of time and voila! The URL weirdness cleared up.

Seems to only effect Windows systems - my Droid tablet (using Chrome) and wife's iPhone are immune.

Also finally tried on my work Windows laptop and saw same issues.

I'm on here several times throughout the day and I never had a problem. I'm running Windows but I am using Firefox.

I use IE....yeah yeah, I know.
Don't usually have problems.
The only bookmark that I lost is TLG.
The only problem I have now is trying to reach the TLG main page.
